Obtaining service history

You didn't have a V5 when you bought it.....from the seller.....
No....I had the detachable part of the V5 form.....from the seller....

You have missed the point.
The V5 is not required to get the Service History.
Dealer/sales person can print this at any time.

In your first post you mention "my service history".
In all fairness you do not have any Service History, the car does though.
You also mention that it is a faff and you got the car 3 weeks ago and it was serviced by the dealer.

All you have to do is request the Service History for the vehicle you bought.

If they wont give you this then let the sales person know you will be returning the car, that usually works. ;)

Your comments in the middle paragraph about “my service history” is unnecessary and, quite frankly, rude. The fact that you stated in an earlier post that you are willing to help long standing members but not new members says it all.

My sincerest apologies if you take that as being rude.

Sorry for highjacking the thread, can you also obtain any MBSH from an MB dealer if you purchased from a private seller?

Would it have to be the specific MB dealer where the service was carried out?

Once you own the car, email [email protected]-benz.com with the following info and they'll email back the history. The seller can/should do this for you if they're serious about selling:
- copy driving license
- pages 2&3 of the V5 document showing your name

Alternatively a friendly Indie with access to STAR should be able to pull the record for you.

In terms of what needs doing, pop the details in here and play with the dates, it'll tell you what is needed at what service:

See my instructions above on a very similar thread

Cheers, I logged into Mercedes Me with the VIN, when I click on DSR it takes me to the page with nothing listed underneath DSR. I assume that means it has no service history on record or is that a glitch?

I’m sure you need to enter a code? The code is at the bottom of the DSR. And there lies the problem, you can’t access it if you don’t have any previous service records. If you already own the car you will need to prove this to a MB dealership/MB customer service by emailing your V5 form and driving licence, they will then send you the DSR.......Don’t take my word for this though, there may be a simpler way, I’m new to Mercedes so still learning the ropes of all this digital stuff!

Yes there is a far easier way....with a book written in ink of the service and extras completed...ohh wait a minute has this not already been done?

I think that Digital Service Books are a great idea in principle, especially given the large number of garage stamps that were being sold on eBay.... it definitely helps reduce fraud. That said, manufacturers should have found an easy way for prospective buyers to have access to the DSB without breaching GDPR.

I agree they are a good idea in principle but I think it would be much improved simply by incorporating the service history on to the COMAND system so you could check it at the touch of a button. BMW do this with their I-drive system and it makes it a lot simpler to check the service history.

I've been looking for an e-class convertible. I found the right one, on budget with the right spec and in the right colour. Trouble is its for sale at a used car dealer and not a Mercedes place. The guy says he can't access the Mercedes system so cont confirm/deny any service history! I've emailed Mercedes to see if they can just confirm it's had servicing without breaching GDPR. Does anyone know if they are likely to do this? Shame to lose the car if they won't but I don't think I want to buy it without some pedigree...

You'll be better off going to the dealership in person, then explain the situation to them and also tell them that you are planning to have the car serviced with them. Or do the same with an independent specialist (most will have access to the MB Digital Service Book).

Officially they won't release the data due to GDPR as you rightly said, but a friendly local dealer/specialist, might.

As Mark says officialy they will not supply this.
No reason the seller cannot get access to the system other than the fact it is too much trouble for them.

Two things you can do though
1: Check the MOT history on the DVLA web site.
2: Go to My Mercedes Service web site and input the vehicle details (private plate removals can cause problems) and mileage to see how much a service is. They will list the last known mileage so if this is shown as 20k and the car has 100K on it then gives you an idea when it was last at the main dealer.
