Occasional drop in power?? safe mode? sl55 amg

The intercooler pump pumps the coolant around the charge cooling circuit. A chargecooler is the heat-exchanger - though it depends what type of cooling a system has.

Right - so Merc "kompressors" use chargecoolers, not intercoolers?

Cheers,

The 55 uses a chargecooler - i.e air to water cooling. Technically the pump probably shouldn't be called an intercooler pump...

Assume the car was bought privately or this should have been fixed by the supplying dealer?

Absolutely (regardless of any official "warranty"!

And, if described as a "good runner" or similar by a private ad there's comeback there as well!

Chargecooler pump

Does the faulty chargecooler pump always show up in Star?

BRABUS Contact!!!

Just came of the phone from speaking to BRABUS in Germany, the technical person I spoke to was very helpful, among the things he suggested was to send the ECU to them and they will remap it for free as during the cars life Mercedes Benz may have upgraded the software during a service, clearing the original BRABUS ECU remap!

The other recomendation was to remove the Charge Coolers (Mercedes & BRABUS) and clean them out and/or replace the BRABUS Chargecooler Pump and the Mercedes Benz Charge Cooler Pump.

Or Bring the car the BRABUS in Germany and they will check it

Revving 3000-4000 RPM in neutral is a limit that has been built into Mercs as far back as the 124.

Are you getting a "check engine light" when you lose power...

There are a few Technical Bulletins from Mercedes concerning software upgrade to the ECU to correct such problems.

Not sure if they are applicable to the SL55, but had a reflash done on my G55K for a similar problem :thumb:

If you take your car for a regular service would it be possible that a Mercedes dealer could reflash or do a software upgrade without telling the owner, BRABUS think it could be possible!
No engine check light just loss of power, power loss is slight and not realy noticeable except if you come across a CLS55 AMG!!!:o:o

I have a a spare Bosh pump in my garage if anyone wants to buy it. Mercedes fitted it a few months back, I recently upgraded the cooling system and now run twin aftermarket pumps.

Its very easy to change.
