hi people. i noticed this morning that my LCD odometer display is not visible. Seems like the back light has gone. however if you look carefully you can actually just about see the reading. My temperature display and clock and the rest of the dash displays are fine so surely its got nothing to do with the fuse. any one have any remedies? would like to have a go fixing it myself as i know the labour costs for the garage to open up the dash to change a potentially dud lcd display will cost me a fortune. any help appreciated.

and oh, its a 1999 c240 sport. thanks!

The bulb has blown.

Remove the cluster and replace the bulb.

Yes same happened on my old 202 C180. You can pus the dash out from behind but not as easy as it sounds.

thanks for the info guys. is there anything i need to bare in mind when doing this? what the easiest way to get access to the back to push it out?

The easiest way is to remove the panel where your bonnet release is.
Then put your hand up and push the clocks out.
Watch out though, there are some sharp bits behind there.
Expect some scratches on your hand and wrist;)

Or make them yourself with a wire hanger and a pair of pliers!

doesnt really work as well though as most wire hangers are thicker and so leave a mark where you insert them... and if you have the thin hangers they are no strong enough!

there is always the possibility of cracking the dash if you use those tools, best way is to undo the panel below and push it out from behind. Done this several times.

remember there are 2 types of bulbs behind there so may be worth getting a few of each.
