Rear tyres on my 2002 C200K sports coupe 225/45/17 Continental Sport Contact 2 lasted 16,000 miles. 5mm left on fronts. Am considering changing rears now to either Goodyear Eagle F1 or Vredstein Sportrac 2. Anyone got any comments on these , or should I stay with OEM tyres.

Steve

Michelins are good but dear. My Dunlop sports are grippy and not too noisy, ie quieter than contis are.

Hi

I would go for the Sportrac 2 or even the Ultrac (which is more expensive).
Sportrac 2 got a very good write up in Auto Express about 2 months ago best in lots of different areas most importantly wet braking and wet cornering.
I have 235/45/17's Ultracs on my E300TD Estate and the wife has Hi-Trac's on her 124 estate..

Spotted a brand new S Class with Vredestein Ultrac's most probably a Dutch import. So they are obviously factory fitted by MB for some markets

We have Vredestein Sportracs on most of our works vehicles as we get really good deals from one of our customers. I rate them very highly, very grippy on the front wheel drive Volvo's and vans that we have. We would like them on the Smart's but they dont make them in the right size.

Many thanks for the information guys.

Have just had the Ultracs fitted on the rear as the fronts are OK at the moment. Two tyre dealers advised me (corrrectly or not) that the Ultracs are a replacement for the Sportrac 2 which are becoming more difficult to aquire.
So will fit the same on the front in a few months.

I've put Ultracs on my SLK and they seem excellent so far - quiet and grippy and not too expensive. I like the bead that protects the alloy. They also look terrific, which may be irrelevant, but doesn't hurt.

My previous car was an Audi A4, which had P6000's on each corner. After a fair bit of research and in particular reviewing tests performed by Autoexpress, I replaced them all with Vredestein Sportrac 2's. What a difference, particularly in the wet. On corners where the Audi used to understeer, the tyres gripped exceptionally well. I also managed to get all 4 replaced (including valves & balancing) for only £275!! I would certainly vouch for this tyre.

We've got the Vredestein Sportrac tyres on our E300TD Estate [same size 235/45/17] - been very good. :)

Oh yes they do! In the Quatrac 2's just looking into getting some 145/65 and 175/55's for my Smart!
Glad to see some good reviews!
