ML 350
I currently have a 12 months old ML 350 which I am extremely happy with.
Coming from more than 10 years of discovery driving, the change has been extremely enjoyable to say the least.
We are looking at moving to Greenwich, next to the observatory, and I was wondering whether it was possible to organise underground/ offstreet parking.
I have worked on the continent, mainly in France and Germany, where such services are widely avalaible from the public car parks with year long passes for residents...
I am not looking forward to having the car parked out in the street for days without moving, especially in the middle of winter...

Any info on how to organise off street and/ or undercover parking in Greenwich will be most welcomed.

L.

greenwich isnt particularly good for parking unfortunately. The parking is normally in the street with a residents permit which can be pricey. Homes with garages and drives command a pretty good premium on price.

It is possible to rent garages from other homeowners but this can be expensive and inconvienient if it is a walk away.

As for underground parking - this doenst really feature too much in Greenwich. Its a pretty 'historical' area....lots of terraced houses and open parks. Not many multi-storey or underground parking. Those that do exist are generally small and can be a nightmare to get in/out of and to get a space.

Most people in Greenwich/Blackheath have to put up with the on street parking i'm afraid.

It was one of the key considerations for me moving to Bromley (15min drive away) where there is a lot of space and lots of houses with driveways and garages.

That said the observatory is a lovely area to live....

hope you find someone who can help a little better than me!

You can buy season tickets for public car parks (see their charges sheets) but I don't know which are covered ie protected from the elements.

PS Greenwich parking is a pain in the proverbials - we walk through the tunnel mostly)

Many thanks for your replies and advices.

I must admit that Greenwich was chosen mostly because of the relatively painless commute to work across the river, and the fact that my wife liked the house a lot!

Anyway, as SportsCoupeRich said the village is indeed lovely and having the park across the street will be a real bonus.

L.

Where abouts do you work....there are other areas of london that would be fairly painless and are green with some marginally better parking. Dulwich for example.

We already have the house in Greenwich and will move back in September.

Work place will be Canary wharf and city from the end of the summer, which is why Greenwich was chosen as a practical place to live and commute to work.

I'll have to have a look at the various options but I guess that underground parking in Greenwich is just not readily available and will probably end up parking the ML in the street... :(

regards,

L.
