You are reading it all wrong, lets take the first number 230646722 that is a 203 fitted with the 646 engine and the 722 gearbox

Your car is on the list and comes under the 203 with 112 engine and722 gearbox

Malcolm,

My VIN No is: WDC2030162R04....

Is mine the the range that may be affected and should i get it checked?

I realise, it has been explained a few times but, i would like to be certain. However, my car has covered 150k miles and is a 2002, so if it is in the range, i would have to bear the whole cost of repair.

Many thanks,

Keith

Hi Kieth the 203 270CDI has the 612 engine , these use the 612.962 engine.

My records show that the only engine affected is the 612.990 and 612.646

Please double check your engine number first

Hi again Malcolm. Yes, i can confirm my engine is the 612.962. so it seems i'm not affected, good news!

Many thanks agin for the speedy reply.

Spent a few more hours searching but found nothing conclusive yet............

I'm still wondering how to identify the 'suspect' Valeo radiator (I have an '01 C200 automatic and want to know what I have in it). I've found posts mentioning a 'Valeo' sticker on the top or bottom of the radiator, but then others mentioning they had the Valeo and it didn't have a sticker.

I've also seen mentioned that the 'suspect' Valeo radiators are constructed a certain way, but could not find anywhere how they were constructed or exact differences in construction or tank crimping as shown in the TSB.

I've also seen mentioned that the Valeo radiator is mounted differently to the Behr ...

Therefore the question remains is there is a definitive way for all of us to tell if we have a Valeo radiator or a Behr, or even an updated Valeo (vs. the older 'defective' unit)?
Do they all have white dot labels stuck on when you order a new one?

As 1998K said "we need confirmation by someone that really knows" :)

There is a new flushing fluid available for the 722.6 gearbox with glycol issues. A small amount stays in the box too.

I have just ordered some. I am not sure if dealers will readily sell it but if anyone wants some I can get it.

How do I know if I have a Valeo or a Behr if I cannot see label and/or rippled edges?

Bear with me, I'm new to the MB world and also new to the jerky transmission shifts I've been dealing with. My new (to me) 03 c230k coupe with 35k miles checked out with my mechanic's used car inspection/test drive and i didnt notice the kick when shifting because i test drove either slow or fast and never encountered the jerk around 30 mph.

Now that I have been driving for a week it annoys the hell out of me and I've done more research but im not sure if its a transmission adjustment thing, an issue with a pvc hose, a radiator leak or what but i figure i can start by figuring out if i have a valeo or a behr and then take it from there when my extended warranty kicks in in a few days.

just looking down at the radiator i couldnt see anything that confirms if its a behr. Please help. Where is the label? :dk:

P.s. further detail - at about 2000 rpm the car jolts and if i let the gas hover at 30-35, it vibrates slightly before i increase the speed. It rides fine at all other speeds. around 60 mph it does the same thing on a much smaller scale. I am not sure if the fluids are right. I have no malfunctions that show up.... other than that, everything is mint... I have heard of the automatic transmission learning your driving style, but then i read these horror stories about ruined transmissions... so idk. HELP. Thx in advance.

Check out the photos in my post no. 24 in this thread link below:-

Then compare silver metal crimping on your radiator to identify if you have a Behr or Valeo. Look carefully with a torch under the bonnet, the black plastic rad end tanks are vertical on each side of the rad as is the metal crimping...............it took me a while to identify what to look for at first but is obvious once you work it out.................

sorry to be a nuisance

Really sorry to be a nuisance and I hope I am posting in the right place. I am in the process of buying a 270cdi and have sourced the following details from my vin number of wdb2112162a382859 with engine number 64796130077707.

I have tried to find the affected cars list but cannot see my VIN number on most, however on some others it would appear it may be affected. I am having an RAC check done on Thursday but can any-one please help me identify if I am likely to be affected.

Again sincere apologies if posted in worng place / I have missed something obvious

Can anyone tell me if what I'm experiencing is related as my car is new to me from a Mercedes Benz dealer with a 12-month main dealer warranty. It's a 2003 CLK55 AMG, and it does have a Valeo radiator as I've looked and it has the sticker still. The car has done 66k miles and has a full MB service history. However recently between 2nd-4th gear I feel like it's a bit jolty and as though your going over rough road surfaces, it doesn't happen every time but generally I can feel something not that smooth. I initially thought it was the road surface and then thought maybe it's because of the sheer torque of the car and it's a characteristic. Any thoughts/guidance? Assume if the transmissions does die as a result of this Valeo issue then the MB Dealer warranty should cover it??

This sounds exactly like glycol contamination. Get it looked at ASAP. A simple glycol test will prove it.

You need to get it sorted now, not wait for it to die! They should replace the radiator and torque convertor at least.

I assume under the MB Used Car Warranty this would be covered? And is that vibration from the torque convertor or actual already established transmission damage?

thanks for any help!

any recent news on this issue as i have a E320 cdi w211 estate vin number 2112262A89 not sure if i have a valeo rad but am experiencing acceleration judder

Hi all, I'm going to see a CLK 500 later today. If the chassis number is different to the ones listed in the first post I'm assuming the car is considered ok, is this right.
It was registered on 23rd June 2003 and has done 80,000 miles and does have a valeo rad fitted
Thanks for any help
