Oh dear, indignant lycra lout fined £400 for speeding in Richmond Park

Tractors too - especially during the morning peak periods

Horse boxes should be limited to 11:30AM - 3:30PM too. Keep them off the roads during the time the tax payers are going to/from work to prop the country up!

Good! They should all be fined for the crap they get away with most of the time. The amount of bikers running red lights because it is convenient for them to do instead of waiting. If I started doing that in my car I would either get reported or stopped by the police not long after. And months ago on the radio there was an interview with a biker regarding the same issue of running red lights. According to the person interviewed it was his choice and should he be hit by a car whilst running a red light the fault will be of the driver of the car because the cyclist is on two wheels. I personally thought that biker can do one and be jailed for all I care.

Ode to cyclists.

He was right dead right as he peddled along,
Now he was dead, just as dead as if he'd been wrong.

I had a Raleigh equip racer when I was around 16. I had some serious speeds out of that!! I think my record was 120mph. Of cause I had my mate slightly behind me on his lc350 with his foot on my back. And they say cyclist can get in the way. Only problem was I couldn't flash anyone to move over out of my way lol.

120, must have had a rd500 retrofitted..:thumb:

As a cyclist, and a motorist, I could not disagree more. You seem to be viewing motorists through rose tinted spectacles, and unfairly viewing cyclists as problematic.

So for example, 1.5 million drivers are uninsured. Of insured drivers, many are aggressive, many are inept, and I would say almost the majority, are inconsiderate to the point of danger, towards cyclists.

On the contrary, as a driver, as a pedestrian, and as a cyclist, I have extremely rarely encountered any element of danger, or discourtesy from a cyclist.

To the earlier posters who seem to be very anti cyclist;

I have found drivers antagonistic towards me as a cyclist for the most stupid of reasons. "you don't pay road tax" is a common refrain, however, I pay a lot of road tax. Many cars however do not pay road tax due to their emissions.

Then there's the old chestnut about 'cyclists aren't insured' well I am, and if you're an inconsiderate or dangerous motorist, be advised, that it's for my protection as much as yours, so I have legal support to provide recourse in the event of an incident. Many of my fellow club riders have similar cover, which comes free with membership of various cycling associations.

I find the aggression of motorists towards cyclists to be abhorrent, and dangerous, since it seems to incite motorists to effectively threaten and jeapordise cyclists lives. I guess we are all entitled to our own opinions and views, however lack of consideration or respect for cyclists, can lead to manslaughter when accompanied by ill advised or impatient driving.

Sorry, but I simply do not believe you. I think your spectacles are more rose tinted than any of the motorists on this thread.

I work around the Oval (London) area, we have spent untold millions last year in creating a new cycle network to keep them safe, yet this morning at least 3 cyclists ignored the cycle lanes and ran through the normal road sections that were on RED. I see this most days, if not every day.

Saw it this morning on my way to work. See it almost daily. Approaching traffic lights at a busy T junction. Cyclist in front (fully lycra'd, no lights). Lights changed to red well before we both approached yet he cycled straight over the red with no hesitation causing a van crossing from the side on green to swerve to avoid. Just why? Why the special exclusions?

bottom line is the rules, and speed limits of a given road should apply to all users, i'm fed up hearing pedestrians and cyclists whining on that they are just as entitled to use the roads as cars, then they should obey the same rules. A speeding cyclist can cause an accident just as easily as anything else, i know if i was walking along the side of the road/track i'd not like to be hit by a cyclist doing nearly 40mph! or a car swerving to avoid said idiot

As for the due care and attention bit, it doesn't take the cleverest pupil in the class to realise that a bicycle is not going to be able to stop/slow down or be very controllable at that speed, so put up, shut up and pay the fine like the rest of us road users do.

And what was it he said, i'm sure it costs more to perform the hearing than i got fined ? ..... fine, increase his fine! simples :p
