Hi, with my previous cars (non MB) I've changed the oil frequently about every 3-4K miles.

Would you recommend that this is good practise with an MB C200 petrol engine?

What oil would you recommend?

Many thanks

There have been many discussions on the Engine section about oil change frequency.

My interpretation is that 3-4k is too soon. Suggest that 10k is good or 12 months whichever is sooner m8.

My C200 has done 5k since the oil change, and its still a nice colour ... so would say that changing every 3-4k miles is unnecessary. As long as you keep it topped up to the max, it should be safe to follow the manufacturers recommended change intervals,

(unless you are racing it around a track all the time, of course !!!)

(As for what oil to use ... the dealers tend to use fully synthetic. I've got Mobil1 [0W 40] in at the moment - although any fully synthetic should be OK - again, there are differing views on whether this is necessary depending on whether you are having it serviced at main dealer or an independent specialist.

Obviously it would do no harm to change the oil more frequently but with modern oils and filters and cleaner fuel it is probably not really neccessary.

Personally I would stick to the service indicator or change at least once a year. Use a good quality semi or fully synthetic oil as per the owners handbook.

i usually change the oil/filter once a year or every nine thousand miles as per the maintenance booklet on the c200 1997 model.

it is cheap insurance and should result in engine longevity.:).

the oil i use is the semisynthetic-10w/40 from german and swedish.
