Hi

My father has a Merc E220 1995 'M' reg. I'm about to do an oil change on it and noticed it doesn't have the conventional oil filter cartridge but a paper type filter!

I think I have located where it is to be fitted by can't remove the top. Do I need a special tool or will it just come off with a oil filter removal type tool.

Also what type of spark plugs would be best?

thanks for your help

I used a chain type filter remover, from under the bonnet. Once the "cap" is off, the filter should be inside.

yes, there is a special tool available from the dealer(stealership) for the reasonable cost of less than a tenner-fits snugly on top of the oil filter casing and you need to fit a large socket with an extension to open it.

i find you can use a chain type or strap type tool but it can be tricky as the oil filter casing may get damaged.

be sure to replace the rubber seals/rings
