Oil in the footwell passenger side

It is likely to be ATF due to a failed pilot bushing.

At least the floorpan isn't likely to rot that side.

As Dieselman, it will be ATF, get it looked at asap and hopefully you may be able to clean the ECU and loom if its not too bad.

It looks dark like engine oil

No other oil can get in the passenger footwell, im quite sure. Have you had the ATF ever done on that car? It will probably be dark and look like engine oil if its never been replaced.

Ive never changed the gearbox oil. What has caused this?

The pilot bushing on the side of the gearbox. It is well known to fail. It leaks the ATF past its seals and this eventually travels up the loom and into the passenger footwell where the ECU is situated.

Pilot bush leak at the gearbox. Very common issue. The part is only £17.60 to stop it coming up the loom. If the control unit is soaked it can still operate when contaminated with oil.

Get the ATF changed. If it black it is well used! It should be a pinky red colour.

I wanted you to do it when i come down to The pcs gtg but i guess i will have to have this done before. Whats the part no for the pilot bush?

You don't need the part number. Just pop in to your local dealer and ask for one.

£17.60+vat BTW

Where is the gearbox ecu located? So i can check if the oil has got into it

Under the passenger carpet and kick plate. Oil will be in there.

passenger side, lift the carpet, there is a metal panel held on by 2 or 3 plastic 10mm nuts, take that off and the gearbox ECU is on the reverse of that metal panel.

Passenger footwell, pull the carpet back. Un-do the three 10mm platic nuts and remove the metal panel. The Gearbox control unit is bolted to that plate :thumb:

Checked the gear ecu looks good oil hasen't reached the ecu the wires have oil on them. Can the pilot bush be done by my self? Where is it located exactley?
