I recently topped up my oil using mobil 0w - 40 previously my car contained shell helix ultra 5w40 now the car feels heavier any reason for this.

Of course it is you just added oil, take some back out? :D

What do you mean heavier? How much oil did you add?

What engine?

This is like pulling teeth.

Assuming you did not not over-fill, I can't see how 400ml of different oil can make a noticeable difference - especial as both are top-notch oils.

Incidentally, I drive a w203 M271 MY 2006.

when i checked the dipstick oil was not near the max mark and no message has come on the dashboard

It's a placebo effect, stop worrying!

Petrol engines not usually equipped with automatic level check (other than low oil level warning).

Oil level should be one or two notches below Max when engine is hot, or about halfway between Min and Max when engine is cold.

lol oh crap it was 3 - 4 notches below max when cold

Not a problem as such, as long as it does not go over the Max when hot.

If it does, remove some oil.

There would be a sticker on the oil filler cap warning that overfilling can damage the engine.

This is true, but at the same time worth noting that this is far more crucial in Diesel engines than petrol.

So if it is over filled, take some out, and no harm done.

ummm i know this may sound completely newbish but are there any videos tutorials on how to drain oil.

wouldnt the 0w - 40 weight more if the car feels heavier now?
lol you are kidding right and by the way the oil will not wiegh any more all the 0w and the 40 are is the viscosity of the oil when hot and cold im afraid its all in your head and the differance between a 0w and a 5w is next to nothing its an inbertween weigth as poeple see the differance between 0w and 10w as to big!
