Oil seperator diagphram

Can anyone help here.. i have noticed today light wiffs of smoke coming from the oil seperator on closer inspection i have removed the lid off the seperator and the diagphram is totally deteriorated it needs a new one... i Will only assume that this is not a separate part available from merc...

Any ideas on a fix or would it be safe to leave it out completely and just put the lid back on...

Its om646 engine.. seperator is part of the valve cover

The guts are not available separately.
Simply replace the whole thing.

Yes i figured that... quite typical really... replace the entire cover for the sake of a 99p piece of rubber...

Any one tell me if the older 646 oil seperator the one that bolts on.. has the same diagphram as the new all in one rocker cover type..?

I would buy the older and transplant the internals..
