Help - Just been looking into a small oil leak and small water leak on my 1992 W124 E320.

while looking for the leak i moved some wiring at the front of the engine bay (after removing the black plastic cover on the front of the engine - behind the radiator fan). i guess this is the biodegradable wiring look ?? think it must be as it crumbled in my hands!!!

Has anybody changed this loom or could you recomend a W124 specialist in my area - i live just outside Pontefract in West Yorkshire (UK). I've used Mercedes Wakefield, Leeds and Doncaster with a newer merc i had but i'm not that impressed. i would rather have an enthusiast / specialist. It's a really good car, i'm the second owner from new and it's done 83k.
Does anybody know the part number for the engine wiring loom?

Back to the oil leak, looking at the car from the front it could be coming from the front left of the engine (under the exhaust maifold). any ideas??

water could be coming from the front left of the engine?? any ideas?

i'm not sure how much oil or water its using yet, it's just been serviced and had the water/antifreeze changed (not sure if the water problem could be down to the new antifreeze finding a leak?? the system was flushed and filled as recommended with mb antifreeze.)

There isnt any water in the oil or oil in the water. it was running like a dream before i touched the engine wiring (used cruise all the time). just going back out now to temp tape up the wiring and reconect.

any thought would help.

many thanks. Simon.

there is a good article on engine wiring loom replacement here. http://www.mercedesshop.com/Wikka/M104WireHarness .For replacement loom best to go to your MB dealer with your chassis no and get them to look up the correct part no. Try to negotiate the price down a bit if you can. They might just knock a bit off. Alternatively armed with the part no phone around some more MB dealers for a better discount.

Thanks Greame, just had a quick look. will print and read in detail. makes me think its same problem.

Any idea's on oil or water?

thanks,

The Part No could be MA202 540 60 81 PIN BUSHING HOU
You will need 3 sets, one for each coil, circa £29.66 +VAT each.

The water and oil leaks difficult to say. there is another article on that web site which describes the cylinder head gasket renewal and problem oil leaks see
http://www.mercedesshop.com/Wikka/M104HeadGasket. Water leaks -dont know but possibly water pump related. Leaks often develop after a antifreeze renewal particularly if it hasnt been done for some time! my advice would be to monitor things carefully for a short time to try to pin down exactly whats happening if the leaks arn't too great. The water leak is probably priority since the pump might fail completely and leave you stranded if the leak is from there. A good independent experienced in this model should be able to sus it out quickly.

Do you know of any in the Leeds / Wakefield / Doncaster area? My "old" merc was a new one so i had it serviced at the dealers. wasnt too pleased with the service though. I really like this motor so am reluctant to let them have a go at it. regards Simon
