i loved mercedes from when i was young boy in the middle east

i had the pleasure of owning 540 skk 1939 personal gift to king ghazi of iraq from hitler himself, this is a special one it had a bucket seat athe front for hunting gazzelles in iraq nobody knew its worth or historic value mercedes directors came and saw it and promptly offered in the late 70s 500 brand news cars of the flagship model as 450 sel 6.9 in exchange. only three made of these cars other two where with mouslini in italy and the last one was for herohito family in japan.

i moved from their owning many mercedes classics includinga gull wing, 300 sl 190 sl, w111 in various specs, w113, w114, w123, w124 (of which still own a fews), w126 has one in storage with BIgA sec no plate waiting for someboy to restore it.

i also own350 slc 1972 lhd 80k miles from new believed to be on of handful from original first run chassis no 4xxx and of course is tax exempt windup back winodws

looking for sec in convertible cabrio gambala gull wing, do not mind mechnical work but hydrolics must work.

have good connections in the middle east with royal families as i supply them with prestige no plates british of course.

have collection of no plates which are always avail:devil:

have lots of knowledge about mercedes oldtimer models and stats.

was involved in creating 500 slc in the UK in rhd by buying up 380 slc and transplanting them with 500 engines

also has access to brand new gull wing with chevy engines exact replicas but not for the faint hearted they are 125k brand new and can be avail in RHD to but that is even more expensive if u r inetrested let me know.

i look at most odd ball mercedes but do not like odd balls mainly original and restoration projects etc

if u need help i am always avail and normally come up with cost effective solutions to help people i do it with passion for money as most collectors do

call if u need anything 07958 216162

pity i did not know about this forum years ago i could have passed quite a few bargains that been through my hands as i buy enjoy and then sell on at huge loss but that is my style!!!

Welcome, and a very interesting post!

Wish mine had GazelleKillingTronic :D

Let me get this clear. In the late 70s you were offered 500 Mercedes SELs ? Did you take them ?

I guess it is this car below?

A Mercedes benz 540K that was a present from Adolf Hitler to King Farouk I on the occasion of his wedding to queen Farida in 1938 on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

[EDIT] Clearly it is another SSK in that link but in the comments section I found the remarks below. Very interesting reading indeed.

"There's another 540K survivor that has had only TWO owners from new and is of equal if even greater historical significance than the Farouk car, in view of current events. It is car (engine) #123705, purchased by the late King Ghazi of Iraq in 1935. In 1933, at the age of 21, Ghazi succeeded his father on the Iraqi throne; unfortunately, his reign was short-lived; he died in a motoring accident in 1939. His Mercedes was coach-built by Erdmann & Rossi who delivered it to the Daimler Benz headquarters for onward shipment to their illustrious client. I saw and photographed the car in a derelict auto museum in Baghdad’s Fawzah park, in 1983, shortly before the war with Iran. That Mercedes was one of sixteen old cars of state that had belonged to the royal family. It was painted cream with dark green accents. The Kings coat of arms was painted on the doors. When the Gulf war broke out, I thought, "that car is lost forever". To my great astonishment, however, the car surfaced again. Somehow it had been acquired, in the interim, by Hussein, the late King of Jordan He shipped it back to Germany, in 1986, for a full restoration. At the present time, the car is back in Jordan and looks just as good as it did back in 1935."

that is the one once found it was donated to be shown

So from what I can gather, if you once owned the car then you must either be Saddam Hussain or Jordanian Royalty? (If so, it is probable that I used to share a dormitory with your brother)

That is one beautiful car anyway, I'd love to know more.

You shameful name dropper!

it was offered in auction in the mid seventies and mark unknown, i always look at car books and realised it was an old mercedes of the 30s, saddam was not yet in power and his son was too young to collect the old classic as he did, he eventually had cars from all over the world including versace lamborgini in bright yellow.

i left 1977 never to return it was donated to the muesum as the stories turned up in 1976 on what it was when mercedes found out and came to look so it was our lives or the car.

we decided to live.

anyways

i do not own any of these top mercs anymore

i only have right now the sec slc and w114. one of the last w124 e300 diesel multi valve 1996

i hav 4 stolen last yr which included 380 slc 300 td 280 ce 1978

love the mercs and will buy stuff when they come up

B13SS U:eek:

Dinoy,
can you please get in touch with me, I have a small question regarding a Mercedes you owned in the past.
Sadly I can't send a private message to you, because I just registered a few days ago. Maybe it is possible that you send a pm to me, I could then give my mail adress to you. If that doesn work, please use
xjdriver at discardmail.de to send your contact details to me.
Thank you very much, looking forward to speak to you soon.

Regards from Germany

Oliver
