Old problem OIL

Hey,
Bought a 2000 C180 from an independent car sales garage, when I bought it, the fuel gauge wasnt working and the key fobs wernt working either amongs other stuff. After a while of driving, the engine warning light came on.

The garage replaced the fuse unit in the boot and had it all reprogrammed. All warning lights went off, fuel gauge shot up, radio picked up signal etc etc. All great!

Any way, I decided to nip round to a local garage that is a merc expert, they had a look under the bonnet and started unplugging all sorts and showed me how eveything was covered in oil. Obviously from the well known oil leak (didnt know about previously). Now this garage has quoted around 2K to do all the work. The car drives mint and everythings working now the new box is in the boot.

I love the car but can really be affording 2K. The garage should actually repair it for me but surely every sensor, current harness etc etc shouldnt need replacing?

Is there anything that can be done? I have done asearch but it throws up a few different oil issues.

The car runs sweet currently.

If there is something else that can be done, does any one fancy doing it for me and I will get the garage to cover the parts and labour costs? Any help would be awsome. Im in Cheshire in England. Thanks.

If it's a head gasket, £2k is nonsense. Find a good independent MB specialist; there are plenty about. From your location, why not drive up to Ian Walker's place:

I'll go along with Roger on this one.

I had a head gasket replaced on my E320 W124 by the garage (at their expense) I purchased it from and it was just weeping a tad of oil. Cost in 2004 at Mercedes of Tonbridge prices: £816.43 and included new antifreeze.

If I were you I would go to a reputable independant garage.
