I'm replacing the leaky gasket on my OM642 EGR valve.....its leaking coolant both internally and externally. My fault as I re-used it which I can normally get away with on steel gaskets....!
Anyway its not a great design due to how little metal there is between the various holes. So I was just wondering if anyone uses any sort of sealant top make sure it does not leak again. Ok you could argue that it did not leak before I removed it and so the new one (which is a genuine MB one) so it wont leak now......but is there a sealant I could use as well? I'm guessing that due to the heat an RTV silicone based one would be a no go.... how about a smear of Blue Hylomar?
Note how little metal there is between the small coolant hole and both the fixing bolt hole and the valve aperture.
