Not really much to add, I’ve added below a link to a video where you can hear the rattle, may need to turn volume up.

maybe not so much a rattle, more a misfire. Not sure if anyone has had this before?

ive been told so far that it could be:
Cam/crank position sensor
Timing chain
Injectors
Fuel delivery (filter/pump)

It’s probably worth adding that it’s the 2011 C207 E350 (231bhp) model.

Not the best of recordings , I recently learned not to have a big bunch of keys jangling around on any car ignition key , possibly increasing barrel wear and annihilating parts of the dash .

The bunch goes in cheap Faraday key pouch these days .

Thanks for that

Sound advice for engine rattle, exactly why I posted in the Technical > Engine thread

not gonna get far with that attitude, he was only offering some advice, as mentioned the sound is not the best

OP, Whats with all the keys ? you a prison officer ? I am surprised you can hear any rattle at at all. I am sure Jay Z and Mr T combined have less iron hanging off them than your key ring does ! :D

Post another vid with less background noise so we can here it better. P.S what makes you think crank position sensor ? it doesn't touch anything and it is a fixed non moving part.

If it is a missfire it would show up on Star diagnostic as a stored event/fault. I too would not and don't have lots of keys hanging off my car key.

Bloody hell lads it’s 3 keys
Key 1 - access to telephone exchange where I park car
Key 2 - House key
Key 3 - Work key

the misfire type noise can be heard clearly at 12 seconds in which is after the infamous keys have finished jangling.

Try recording it from outside with the bonnet up and someone else starting the car....
It will be less muffled.

I'm listening on very good speakers and can't really hear the problem. Can you get a video from outside?

I have the same engine so can compare it, if you like.

FWIW the keys didn't bother me! :)

Yes, it's the chain that is rattling.
It stops when the oil pressure comes up.
It may be a tensioner. There may be more than one.
