OM642 ECU swap

I have a 2008 280CDI with the OM642 engine spec'ed to 190PS. I understand the 320CDI is the exact same engine but at 235PS or thereabouts. I have also read that the 280CID ecu has some portions "locked" and cannot be easily modified, but the 320cdi ecu can be upgraded further.

What would it take to swap an ECU from a 320cdi OM642 to the 280CDI? I understand at least 3 components need to be swapped -- ecu, key module, ignition unit (anything else)? What additional programming is needed?

Isn't it just easier to get a remap where the 280cdi ECU is opened up (physically) to release the 320cdi potential.

I thought I had read that there was something in the 280ecu that did not allow this. Perhaps someone has some experience here on this?

Msl have done this a lot, switched the ECU spec to 320cdi and mapped it there getting around 290hp and well over 650nm with there that's the place to go.

From what I understand, the 320 ecu can be remapped via the obd to reach its full potential.

The 280 has been restricted in some way, therefore it requires removal to bypass or open up the restriction and effectively turn it into the 320 ecu, which will release the same remapping potential.

The 280 can be remapped via the obd, but the restriction remains in place, therefore it cannot reach the full potential without being opened up.

My car is in India. No remapping shops here that I know or trust. So, that's why I was wondering if I could just buy 320 ecu plus other stuff to get the same result. Just looking for factory perf levels.

In this case possibly. I'm not 100% sure, but it may possibly be classed as a security related item, so may not be as simple...
