No longer a Merc!
I have a suspected one of these - 2010 E350 with 55K on. I have the Merc warranty (bought after I purchased the car earlier this year) so wish me luck!

That sounds a bit early @ 55
But in any case the seals are now on their 3rd iteration--purple coloured !

I often look at the air intake and oil separator breather arraignment first for leaks that drip into the valley and or looseness of the turbo on the mount pedestal.
After that its a bit of a tear out!

The garage I go to have seen a few OM642s at 50K (they basically opened a draw next to the ramp the car was on, and had a purple seal there, as they've been doing a few!)

I took it to them when I saw the spray under the car, and they steam cleaned it off, and asked me to come back in a day or two. I did that today, and there was spray on the undertray again - they removed it, and it's coming from the hole under the cooler (not the rear bell housing).

Yes!
That's because there is a weep hole bored into the block which exits just behind the starter motor. Oil dwelling in the valley from leaks etc runs down the weep hole and out onto the belly pans .
Sometimes throws some folk a googlie trying to find the leak!
