Om642 turbo issues

Hi all, the turbo on my 2014 e350 is missing some fragments and blades on the compressor wheel. I’m looking to gain some insight into what I’m dealing with here. Where will the metal most likely be? Would it be in the intercooler and no further or is there a chance they could reach the engine? My plan is to put in a new turbo and intercooler, is their any other action I should be taking for this situation or is it worse?

It depends how small the fragments are, if small enough, then yes, they could be pulled into the engine, it also depends how long the engine was run, after the turbo died.
