Hi everyone. I want to buy a C200 CDI aged around 2007 to 2009. Ive read that the OM646 is the best engine to go for but how do I find out if the car I may want to buy has that particular engine because I believe there are other variants? Thanks in advance.

Best guess is the C200 CDI, C220CDI between 2007 and 2009 should have it.

In diesel it will either be the 646 or the V6 642.
But I would suggest you will do better going for the 211 (E Class) 220CDI. I've had 3x 203's (C Class) and didn't realise the 211 was so much better till I got this one.
You are correct that a good condition 646 is better for reliability. Especially if it doesn't have a DPF.
