I know this is a previously discussed topic, but I thought I'd just add to it...

Whilst in Germany on business trip the other week, I was chatting with a taxi driver about the OM651 engine (as you do!). This taxi firm runs a large fleet of W212's, with a mixture of CDI200 and CDI220 engines. He was saying how in the first year of the W212, they had 5 cars with broken heads due to cam-chain wear (amongst numerous injector issues!), and they all failed between 80,000-100,000Km. He also said how they had issues with the (722.9) gearboxes as well. Things had got so bad that MB gave them an E-Class test-mule to run, so MB could collect data, test modifications etc.

Anyway, he said they'd had no more cam-chain (or gearbox) issues after the first year of the production of the W212, and they're running cars that have between 200,000-300,000Km of use. So what did MB change....??
