Hi,

I have an issue with my throttle valve. Pulled away today & the car spluttered alittle as if it were going to cut out. Got back home, plugged in my Icarsoft & 4 codes came up.

P211271 - The throttle valve is jammed closed. The actuator is blocked
P012315 - Position sensor 1 from the throttle valve has a short circuit to positive. There is a short circuit to positive or an open circuit.
P069700 - Output 3 for the reference voltage of the sensors has an electrical fault or an open circuit
P063822 - The output for the throttle valve actuator (cylinder bank 1) has a malfunction. The signal amplitude is greater than the maximum amplitude

Should I take the throttle valve out & clean it or should I replace it?

When I do remove the throttle valve:
Do I require a seal for the EGR cooler ?
Is there a seal either side of the throttle valve?

Any help & recommendations would be greatly appreciated guys.

GIven the codes its throwing it sounds like it might need replacing. I'm not sure about the seals etc as never done one.

hopefully somebody on here with more knowledge might be able to help?
Are there any good merc sepcialists near you?

Hi Tony, there are a few good specialist near me but i am more than capable to carry that job out on my own given a little guidance. Its my first Merc that I have own for over 4 years now & starting to get a few sensor issues. That 651 engine is so tightly packed in as well. Gonna replace it in the next few days once I get the parts.

Ah cool let us know how it goes. Yes the om651 is pretty rammed into the space on the c class, access seems difficult for a lot of the parts each side, but the belts and water pump are easy to get to.
What's the mileage on the car you have if you don't mind me asking?

62000 miles, hardly anything for its age.

wow that's unlucky then 62,000 miles on this engine is barely run in.....hope its not to expensive to fix..

Hi, I'm having the same problem, what was your resolution?

So I have a 2011 c250 diesel. Last year it entered limp mode, turned out to be a wheel sensor. Fixed this one, two weeks later the other failed. Fixed the other and then a pressure sensor failed on the intake. Fixed and a few weeks later dpf sensor failed. Has been fine for a couple of months and now this has happened..

Feel like these sensors are failing due to another issue rather than age or common mode failure

Be careful not to move the butterfly on the valve when fitting as can cause a failure. There are a couple of seals for either side of the throttle valve. A seal and gasket for the egr pipe. A gasket for the egr cooler. The adaptation will need reset/calibrated once fitted too.

P211271 throttle valve jammed closed, the actuator is blocked.. This is the current fault.. But history is similar to above, had about 8 fault codes

8 different ones relating to the throttle body ?

So these are the codes from the first scan:
1. P04091C - Historic - The position sensor for the exhaust gas recirculation controller (cylinder bank1) has an electrical fault. The voltages value is outside the permissible range
2. P20151C - Current - The position sensor or position switch for the charge movement flap(cylinder bank 1) has a malfunction. The voltage value is outside the permissible range.
3. P069700 - Historic - Output 3 for the reference voltage of the sensors has an electrical fault or an open circuit.
4. P034031 - History - Position sensor one for the intake camshaft (bank 1 ) has an electrical fault. The signal is not present.
5. P034400 - Historic - The position sensor for the intake camshaft (bank 1) has a sporadic malfunction
6. P211271 - Historic - The throttle valve is jammed closed. The actuator is blocked
7. P063821 - Historic - The output for the throttle valve actuator ( cylinder bank 1) has a malfunction. The signal amplitude is less than the minimum amplitude.
8. P200A75 - Historic - The charge movement flap (bank 1) has a malfunction. The emergency position was not reached.

Decided to delete all codes to see what the existing codes are and now have the following:
P211271 - Historic - The throttle valve is jammed closed. The actuator is blocked

Worried that I have an electrical fault that is causing these sensors to fail. Also in scan 1, the current fault (number 2), went away in scan 2, and fault 6 was historic but then became current.

The throttle valve one is new throttle body required or the wiring to it .

The wiring breaks down due to repeated heat cycles .

Sorry, didn't mean to post that again! 🤣

stupid question time! anyone got any tips for replacement... Anything to watch out for? I noticed the actuator on the intake side of the engine moves full stroke when the engine is started, assuming this is the throttle valve
