Also found this in MB looking wiring... Any ideas

GIven the codes its throwing it sounds like it might need replacing. I'm not sure about the seals etc as never done one.

hopefully somebody on here with more knowledge might be able to help?
Are there any good merc sepcialists near you?
No not really, only the dealership.. Prefer to save money

That's the throttle valve. The part up top with the actuator is part of the egr system.

Garden path...

Ha, I thought it was higher up so, now I can see it's going to be a ball ache! 🤣
Strange thing is I drove it earlier, with no issues, apart from the warning light, but then later drove it and it went in to limp mode... So checked it and found no active faults.. So deleted the historic faults and it was fine

Amazing. All the faults you listed are on mine. I did bite the bullet and cleaned out the throttle body, metal egr connecting pipe an plastic to the inlet of the engine. It was completely gunked. Quite straightforward but the sixth screw under the metal agr cooler is a pig and get yourself a telescopic magnet as you will undoubtedly drop bolts. Have to be a decent socket set with plenty of extensions!!
Cleared all the faults at a local dealer.
Not a bit of difference. Still goes into limp now and again with light on and off: main problem being crankshaft position sensor now. I don't even know where this is and nothing on the net to show me.
Everything leads to stretched timing chain so be wary as this is scarily expensive to fix and common on these engines!!!
I am gonna try a new throttle body and camshaft sensor meantime. Will let you know how I get on and if it solves the problem.

The crankshaft (40) sensor is on the same side as the throttle valve, it bolts in pointing towards the flywheel. The camshaft sensor (11) is on top of the cam cover to the left.

Many thanks for that. There's not much online to show you on the OM651.
I have changed the crankshaft sensor with it still reading P0340, P0344 and P0697. May be the dreaded timing chain issue after all on mine.

I have replaced the camshaft sensor. I have to do the crankshaft sensor. The image is not the best to show where it is located and I cannot find any images online. Does anyone have any close up images or details of what needs to come off to gain access to the crankshaft sensor egr etc.

Your a star thanks for that. Do you think it will be easier from above or below. When I took the throttle out, it was a beast for access.
It looks tight from the top, not like the vans. Possibly easier from below but have never done the job on a car before.

Be careful not to move the butterfly on the valve when fitting as can cause a failure. There are a couple of seals for either side of the throttle valve. A seal and gasket for the egr pipe. A gasket for the egr cooler. The adaptation will need reset/calibrated once fitted too.
Hi CarFan79, You men tion that it needs to be reset/calibrated once fitted. Is this definite and , if so, how?
