I recall seeing that the twin turbo set-up used on the OM651/CDI220-250 engines, are wastegate type as opposed to (more common) VNT/vari-nozzle type.

Anyone know if this is the same for all engines (because this was a document relating to OM651's fitted to Sprinters) and if they ever give any trouble?

I should have pointed out this twin turbo setup was common to most higher powered versions of the OM651 whether in cars/ vans / SUVs --minor differences in power were achieved thro changes to boost and injector size with the same turbo hardware AFAIK.
Lower powered versions the OM651 e.g. C200 CDI still used a single variable vane turbo as the previous OM646 There appears to be a move away from the twin turbo set up in some of the latest high power versions of the OM 651 back to a single variable vane turbo again- possibly for emission reasons
