Wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction here.

Recently bought a Viano with the OM651 engine and yesterday found the vacuum supply hose to the wastegate and charge air bypass control valves had split and then disconnected and tucked out of the way. My questions are:

Why did this not being on the EML?

Why did the engine still feel to run ok, no over boost or anything?

What would someone have been trying to hide by disconnecting this hose and tucking it out of the way, instead of replacing the £1 worth of tubing?

Could this have caused long term damage to the engine or turbo?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

that sounds real dodgy. it may of had some software 'adjustments' to hide a fault. if it has the twin turbo setup it may just be running on the other possibly?
I would get it looked over by a merc specialist. also check it still has a DPF.

As it happens it's in today for box servicing so I've asked them to check the map etc.

It does not look like a twin turbo and the only actuator I can see looks electronically controlled, not vacuum.

I'm close to the 14 day limit from buying it and I don't want to have to go down a warranty route if it develops some egr or turbo issue at a later date.
