Just got this out from storage. Not been worn in years. It’s at least 35 years old.

Works, but very inaccurate.

Any idea of its value?

And suggestions on where I can get it serviced please? The first quote I got from Omega was at least £600.

Thanks.

Liverpool a bit too far from London

Prefer to bring it somewhere in London

I’ve just sent one of mine off for a service. Royal Mail special delivery which Alex confirms safe receipt via an emailed picture. Easier than doing it by foot especially in London!

Take it to Sean at Watches To Go at the Piccadilly Circus tube station.
Might not look like much, but he is absolutely brilliant.
Back when I had a few bob, and a few nice watches, he looked after them.

You could have a word with Dominic Hackett on Hatton Garden.

I don't think he does repairs but he will certainly recommend someone to you, and he will certainly give an accurate appraisal on it's value.

I’ve got a few decent watches including TAG’s and an Omega SeaMaster that I got for my 50th but I must say that in the case of your watch, beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder.

I have had an Omega watch serviced by Omega and it was returned far far better than it was sent to them. Yes it's expensive but you will get a virtually new watch back and with a guarantee. It will probably enhance the value of the watch as well.

Interesting day ..

Hackett Watches’s rough estimate of value was £3k; which is just the value of the gold. Apparently not an in demand watch.

3 vintage watch dealers would not give any sort of valuation. A dealer in Burlington Arcade supposedly specialising in Omega estimated £800 to £1200.

I said I was looking for rough estimate as needed for insurance purposes; I was not selling.

Omega Boutique in Bond Street could give it a full service to get it working again - it stopped working this morning - by sending it back to Omega Switzerland. Takes 13 weeks and costs £480.

Will get the service done next year after I get back from gallivanting the world.

Thanks all for your suggestions and observations.

That is a pretty watch, reminds me of the Rolex my wife was given in Singapore as a wedding present, unfortunately stolen in our Jan 2000 burglary. Thankfully insured as a specified item, so we got full value back for it. At the time max cost of an unspecified item on our insurance was £1600, so a lot of her jewellery was not specified items. After the burglary we found out that unspecified valuables can only be claimed up to 75% of the total contents sum insured. We ended up about £7k out of pocket on the replacement cost of the contents of her jewellery box (which the thieves emptied). Check your insurance policy small print!!

As for that lovely watch - pleased to hear you will get it back in action. Even though my everyday watch is an Omega Speedmaster, I'd love to have that in my jewellery box for high days and holidays, instead of the £250 Seiko I have for when I occasionally have to dress up.

I haven’t worn it for around 25 years. I just don’t like wearing watches.

However, wearing it during the past 2 days has been fun and it will be good to have it working properly again.

Omega Boutique pointed out that the equivalent watch to my watch that they sell today retails at £28k! But they absolutely would not provide any sort of indication as to value of my watch, probably because he had no idea.

All the dealers in Burlington Arcade are sharks; admittedly it's a very expensive piece of real estate, but they still over-charge in an eye-watering fashion. I'm not surprised you got a laughable bid to buy in, either. They make their money from mugging tourists, who know no better.

Cheers,

Gaz

There's a chap in Charing who specialises in this type of watch, I'm pretty certain he's the one that serviced my Speedmaster a couple of years ago. You can't go to his workshop, he'll arrange to meet you at a coffee shop in Charing! I think it is Tylden Reed, their website is down but their mobile number is 07767 861003.

I got to them via Topps Jewellers who are in Ashford and IIRC Faversham on the recommendation of a good friend of mine, took my watch into their Ashford shop and they got it serviced, it's a few years ago now but IIRC it cost about £200.

Interesting page HERE with a lot of Constellation history for those interested.
