A couple of questions about servicing (for those of you who have Omegas)..

Do they send a reminder?
Is it something I need to remember to do?

Also I've read (here) that they give it a polish and it comes back as new.. which is great but just over a year ago I dropped mine (onto concrete) while taking it off (getting into a wetsuit) and it has a slight dent in the bezel.. would they automatically quote for the repair?

(I'm sure someone here will point me to a forum dedicated to Omega watches but I have no desire to join any more forums, many thanks)

The UK agents are in Southampton , part of Swatch nowadays . I have it sent there by my dealer in Falkirk , from whom the watch was purchased 30 odd years ago . I have never been sent any reminders - I used to just have it serviced every few years when the battery ran out ; latterly I would fit a battery myself and have it serviced at every other battery change .

When I got mine serviced a few months ago , they provided an estimate of £400 - it had always been £150 for the previous 30 years or so ! - PLUS an extra £180 if I wanted 'the dial refurbished' which I declined in view of the cost of the service . Besides I like the 'patina' of something that actually gets used as opposed to sitting in a drawer and only taken out once or twice a year .

Mine had also been dropped onto concrete when the strap separated from the case as I turned my car key in the lock : the watch still 'hummed' but the hands no longer moved . The 'service' certainly was very slow ( about 3 or 4 MONTHS ) but the watch hasn't missed a beat since I got it back .

My Speedmaster came back from its service with new glass and the outside was given a proper 'spit & polish'. Omega don't reming you to have it serviced but if you go on their website i think it gives recommended service schedules. The service centre used to be at Omega House in Eastleigh but i think it's moved up the road to Chandlers Ford now.

Watch servicing by the majority is carried out when something goes wrong with the watch. My Omega has been serviced once in 21 years, but it does need one soon as it is gaining time. Being years out of warranty, I will have it serviced by my local watch repair guy who does it all himself.

Trouble with the local guys is they won't guarantee the waterproof seal. Which is fair enough on a watch costing £1500+

I have a Seamaster Automatic , and it is due a service now as it has been three years since the last one. Think it is about £300+ from memory.

Mine is due a service (ten years without one ) so will be interested in the outcome.

Please keep me posted - mine definitely needs the guaranteed waterproof seal cos I scuba dive. thanks :)

To be honest , the normal watchmakers will probably seal it ok , its just that they don't guarantee it , gets them out of massive bills if the water gets in .... 99% sure it will be ok.

I have a Gucci Chrono as well , that my local guy did and its been fine swimming / bathing etc , he just wouldn't guarantee it.

A quote regarding my Jaeger "water proof" to 5atms and all wateches with the exception of really specialist dive watches are probably the same
"Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Squadra watches are waterresistant
to 5 bar/atm. This property can be identified by
the symbol engraved on the case-back. This means
that you can use your watch during short swims or when
diving in from the edge, but not from a diving board. Nor
should it be used for undersea diving or for sports where
there are significant risks of hard knocks, such as windsurfing
and waterskiing. Please also note that leather straps are not
suitable for aquatic activities.
Furthermore, it is essential to have your watch’s waterresistance
checked by an authorised Jaeger-LeCoultre retailer
at least once every two years, and definitely before any period
in which it will undergo prolonged and/or regular immersion."

So when they say they are waterproof to 100/200m etc etc, they arn't:(

Why would Omega print on the dial that it is waterproof to 1000ft / 300m if it isn't ?

I mean its a divers watch isn't it ? It's got a helium escape valve ...

Incidentally I was wearing an Oris down at 25m, on the way back up the pin in the bracelet pinged out, I saw it happen in slow mo..

Anyway when I took it into the Jewellers that I bought it from they said the watch was water resistant, not waterproof and therefore was not covered under guarantee, nice..
