Both my front tyres are wearing out on the inner edges. It's tracking is spot on and the pressure are ok. I seem to remember my last ML had a similar thing going on. The rears are ok and both have the same wear rate.

Am I right in saying it's a characteristic of these cars?

Hi,I had an ml300cdi (2011) and during my ownership had no such tyre wear and don’t think that’s normal for an ml or any other mb-did you have a full alignment done by a specialist?(not just the tracking by say Kwik fit).

That's interesting and thanks for your feedback. It had a full hunter check while I was there. It was spot on but seems odd that the inner tyre has worn down. I know the current tyres are a bit pony but I doubt that on it's own would be the cause. I think they're Windforce or something like that which came with the car when I bought it. They'll need changing soon which I'll put a decent brand on.

Mercs use akerman effect when on full lock, this will wear the tyres more so on the edges

Hi,premium tyres will make a difference,cheap/budget tyres wear quicker and under perform too...

Which generation ML is it? We’ve had all generations and covered probably 250,000 miles but I haven’t seen excessive wear on one edge only.

Do you use full lock regularly?

Thanks for your replies. I'll get it checked again when I get new tyres on it. The rears have about 4mm left on them so maybe change them as well. Although the windforce tyres would seem a budget tyre they are quiet and I've never had a problem with grip and it done well in last years snow. I think the question of turning the wheel on the spot could be an answer as my wife drives it more than me.

BD, it's a 2005 W164 500.

One never knows.
I think there’s a fair chance that full lock manoeuvring could be playing a part.

I've bought some Uniroyal 5's for each corner and once they're fitted I get a free alignment check and another either 3 months or xyz miles after that.

C63’s do this - most on the owners club on FB acknowledge it’s a characteristic of the cars.
My old RS3 did it too, much worse, ran very aggressive front camber though.

As said above tyre choice will also affect the wear rate. Continentals and Pirellis are quite soft and wear quickly; I’ve had much better experience with Michelin Pilot Sport 4’s.
