I have installed the rear headrest dropdown mechanism into my W202. However, one of the headrests drops but the other one doesn't. Where is the best place to check what's wrong?

Hi. Are they vacuum operated on the W202 like in my W124 saloon?

if so i'd check the vacuum pipe 1st.....

derek

Do you have leather? Mine sometimes stick, but it's just the leather headrest sticking to the top of the seat - nothing mechanical.

you should be able to see the vacuum connection from the boot, listen out for a hiss when you press the button, you may need a helper!

Mine dont work at all?! When I push the button nothing happens.. they were down when I got the car, so I manually lifted them up, they locked in place and now wont go down!

Just suck on the pipes to test, that's enough vacuum. You will find they go down sequentially (wow, big word)..
If the first diaphragm is leaking it may have enough vacuum to operate but may not allow enough to be transferred to the next one along. Test individually.

There is an electrical connection which engages the vacuum, you may need to check if you have a switch fault with yours, or there is a break in the loom. Then check the vacuum, but if you can hear a clicking its probably the vacuum lines.

One mine I can't seem to hear the hiss of a leak, I'll check later for leaks in the diaphragms (I'm assuming by this you mean the mechanisms themselves DM)

Yes, the diaphragms are part of the hinge unit.
