One or two expensive cars, or a shed load of sheds

I’m definitely a ‘larger number of relatively less expensive cars’ kind of guy. I really enjoy the variety of driving completely different types of cars. My favourite car is almost always the last car I’ve driven!

How about you?

I like nice condition cars (so not sheds) but not necessarily expensive. Some of the most fun cars I’ve had have also been the slowest. So for me I’d definitely favour more cars, good examples but cheap.

I'm in the fewer but more expensive cars group. At my very advanced age I can do without too many cars that could possibly go wrong.

But, I did spend ten wonderful years working (at way below today's minimum wage) for a prestige and sports car company where pretty much every day I would drive various different cars. Other than the occasional part ex shed I had to shift, they were all very nice cars. Variety was certainly the spice of life, with a few challenges along the way. One day I could be worrying whilst driving an immaculate Ferrari through London's traffic (and cyclists!) and the next I could be trying to find the door handle to let me out of a TVR.

Middle amount of reasonable quality cars!!! Certainly not just one expensive one but them those that have million pound plus cars probably usually have access to several more. A nice fleet of quickish cars in various shapes for various jobs would do me. A sports two seater, a few fast sports saloons (my favourite), a pickup, couple of classic Yanks (69 Charger and a 69 GTX), couple of 70s UK classics....that will do.

I suppose the more you have, (not sheds, obviously), the longer you’ll have an ICE car after they have to stop making them, because you’d spread the mileage around. So for me it’d be more rather than fewer.

There will be thousand if ICE cars around for decades after we have all gone!!

Has to be the correct answer:
Lots of cheap cars would be OK if you want to spend time and effort keeping them going.
A few expensive cars would just mark you out as a 'cash flasher'.

Funnily enough Mrs Swotty and I have been discussing this a lot recently. She says she is fed up with me buying old bangers which are unreliable and we should sell a few and buy fewer but more upmarket (and she thinks reliable) replacements. She doesn't appreciate that all but the modern stuff can be easily and quickly fixed with a spanner, hammer and screwdriver.

Currently we have:

1922 Citroen B2 "top hat" saloon
1926 Chevrolet Superior Series K Tourer
1954 Sunbeam Talbot 90 Mk 2A
1965 Wolseley 6/110
1985 Citroen 2CV6 - now sold
1987 Chevrolet Corvette C4 targa
1996 Jaguar XJ6 3.2 Sport
2001 Jaguar XKR convertible
2003 Mercedes CL600
2005 Fiat Panda (daily - town)
2009 Citroen C6 (daily - big supermarket shopping)

Just added a 1969 Daimler V8-250, to replace the 2CV6. Currently on its way over here. Fortunately she endorsed a "Morse Jag" purchase.
Someone coming on Sunday to view the Corvette - Mrs S. absolutely hates it. If he doesn't want it, I'll advertise it next spring.

Fancy a nice late V12 XJS or even a Lexus SC430 as replacement, but nothing too exotic. She'll hate the Lexus' blobby shape, as per the C6.

But - she doesn't like "flash" (that's why she's with me!), so Aston, Maserati, Ferrari etc are out. I like Astons but not convinced by other exotica.

What I like is the opportunity to drive a range of different cars as often as possible. They all need to be driven regularly anyway.

Did I mention Mrs S. can't drive?

Now that’s what I’m talking about!

That’s me to a tee.

Come on, fess up. What cars are in the barn Mrs. S does not know about? ;)

Currently only the 1922 Citroen ... there were 3 but I was fortunate to be able to present the other 2 as "opportunity purchases". Now she's cottoned on, I'm on a final warning.
Knew it! You scallywag you!
