2013 C63 PPP
Blew the engine in my 2013 C63 PPP - Merc have quoted £33,300.32 + Vat + Labour for a RECONDITIONED lump from Mercedes and over £40k for a new one
48k Miles, Full MB Service History, Third Party Warranty - Think I have some interesting discussions coming up !!!

How did you manage that!!
What exactly happened?

You can get them for around £5k, just buy one and have it fitted yourself at an indie.

At that price your C63 is a right off! Look for secondhand engines or just buy another C63 and sell yours for spares.

I heard there is only one brand new M113 V8 engine in stock at MB for my ancient C55 (and others) it has a list price of around £30K...the internet is full of them from a few grand upwards. The one MB has will just collect dust. Don't listen to them. clk320x is right in what he says.

Had just booted it past a d1ck on the M6, lifted off and it felt like it stayed in a gear too low and then started missing...Blue smoke and pulled over...Got lifted back to a mates garage, turn ed the key and it turned over then locked up...
Car then lifted to Merc dealer and they reckon it's done a rod

It's covered with a third party warranty and don't really fancy a dodgy recon engine as will kill the value of the car so it's gonna be fun...

Really shouldn't let go at 48k miles, full MB history, right oil at the right level etc et ....Wonder what Mercedes are going to offer up !!

Oh... Had a look round for lumps...Lots of std donkeys around but haven't seen any PPP ones :-(

As above.

These policies are usually capped to the value of the car, i.e. the insurer (third-party warranty provider) will pay you the value of the car rather then spend a ridiculous amount on repair.

This is assuming that the damage is fully covered under the terms of the policy, and for this amount the insurer is likely to check very carefully - i.e. has the car been serviced to manufacturer's spec? Did it have an undeclared engine modification? Etc.

I understand that you don't want a shoddy repair, but if you do want to keep the car, then you should find a reasonably-priced solution that both you and the third-party warranty provider can live with.

A bit of conrod failure is discussed here. One thing that can go for conrods is pre-detonation from high boost pressure/compression ratio or advanced ignition timing. This can be from poor fuel or an overambitious remap for example.

"A bit of conrod failure"? No Sh1t, Sherlock...

See here for the full story:

It's Not A Good Sign When...

Still, looking on the bright(er) (slightly) side, it could have been worse; at least mine only bent...

If it had been an M113, it would not have bent a rod. That's progress for you?

When this nasty damage occured to your car, the engine was it dead cold or did it have work temp?
When engine is cold, should never hit pedal to metal!
Probably there was an instant dry lube where friction hit the components and engine got F-ed?

Feel sorry for you.
I hope you get your problem sorted out cheap.

I'm sure I read somewhere that this issues is a known problem with the 6.2 V8 engine.

By far the worst thing is that d1ck had a bloody good laugh at your expence, still it was very bad luck to have a engine like that go pop, hope you get it sorted.

Then you were extremely unlucky the engine got damaged.
Yikes!
Have you contacted your insurance company?
Sorry dude.

So.....MB have declined to contribute to the repair/replacement of this 48k miles specimen with full MB service history...Have had Mercs for a while, this will be the last. If the manufacturer can't stand by it premium line, there is something wrong...Well done Merc
