As I need to pull my drivers side door card off at some point to fix the broken wiring in the folding mirror, I thought I better avail myself of some decent trim removal kit. After the usual google ebay poke about, I looked on ECP and found Amtech 7 piece set for £9.00 quid. Now i am quite particular about tools, even more so about ones that can do serious irreparable damage, so off I went for a closer look. They appear to be well made from good quality high impact plastic and have just enough flexibility to be comfortable to use without being too springy. The pry ends are nice and thin and the tapers are gradual enough.

They feel good in the hands and seem well balanced, just need to get some tape and the right gauge of wire for the mirror wiring. I read somewhere that it has to be of the correct type and then I can have a crack at it.

Trouble is I am at the point of needing another tool box, this will if purchased cause more problems because I suffer badly from Emptytoolboxaphoboiacism. And you Bruce wil know exactly what I am talking about ;)

.... I got diagnosed with that, by my wife ;)

"He who dies with the most tools wins" or is it, he who dies with the most tools dies???

Haha, I’ve tried sorting tools into “genres” ... sparky box, spanner’s box, house diy, car, motorbike, screwdrivers box, .....but there’s too much crossover, gonna have to rethink the whole damn idea.

I tried that method... but I end up taking 3 toolboxes to go and wire a plug!
I’ve settled on a large general toolbox, another full of sockets, spanner’s and torque wrench (so car use mainly), another full of drill bits and the like, yet another with multimeter, solder iron and electrical stuff, 2 organisers full of screws and nails and fixtures, and don’t even ask about the drills, drivers etc.!

But do you think I can find a hammer when I want one!

Ah I do a similar thing. I have sorted the tools in the command center ( the garage to her indoors ) into electrical / mechanical / and specialist. But I also have a big fat max emergency tool bag full of the stuff I use all of the time that I keep in the house.
A bit like thunderbird 2, I then supplement the standard emergency kit with stuff I think I’ll need when I go on the all too frequent trips in response to the “Dad it’s stopped working, can you ?” calls.

I recently bought a set of carb tuning screwdrivers from Amazon for my chainsaw/strimmers/lawnmowers etc for £9 and I’ve got to say they are ace despite being a one trick pony.

Well today as I searched again for a decent 26 inch roll cab to satisfy my latest outbreak of tool storage deficiency syndrome, that I contracted from Bruce Millar. I ordered a roll cab to suit my Snap On top box, SGS Engineering have them on offer at £180.00 delivered. The quality seems good enough for my needs, it's never actually going to roll more than a couple of yards anyway. It even comes with the draws already lined and delivered on a pallet, so it should be damage free on arrival. Good weight to at 65kg so must have some steel in there somewhere.

My defence for the purchase of this item is that Bruce said I had to buy one or he would tell the tool fairy Godmother that I had been naughty.

Well I better fess up to this one. Earlier this week I bought a brand new set of Blue Point Vernier calipers for £7.50 off the bay, I now have two sets but the new ones are way better than my other set, think I may have to sell them on.

Now awaiting further chastisement from Mr Millar......

Aye, last year I finally bought some proper trim tools and the difference it makes is amazing.

I am developing an irrational need for coloured /anodised tools. In my my minds eye I need these and not having them is somehow destroying my collection. I have managed to allow a set of off-set RED ratchets in to the inner sanctum. But I must have some rainbow sets.

They seem to have snuggled in nicely Bruce, my roll cab should be here on Wednesday so I will of course have to welcome it with some nice new shiny tools to look after. No doubt I will think of something I don't need but absolutely must have. I am fortunate to have a very good engineers wholesale trade supplier near to me.
I have been going there since I was a young Jaguar apprentice, bloody hell that's half a century.... and they still carry lots of good stuff at right money. I have even found the odd Snap On tool or three in stock at good money, last thing I found was a Snap on gold anodised torch that fits in the top pocket of my overalls and no you can't have it

Ahhh

A temple to tools. A place where we can go and worship tools in perfect solemnity. I bet they have tools wrapped in brown oiled paper? The proper orgasmic stuff, that you can keep and use with other tools. It has its own aroma, a whiff of the Gods.

A Snap-On Torch? Wow. That’s probably worth more than an average family, four bed detached, in the Midlands.

How I envy you, that shop. I find myself having to rely on the Internet more and more. But have found some excellent trusted suppliers. But it does not compare with being there at the counter, with that sense of anticipation as you wait for the guy in the brown coat to bring you out your latest desire. Heaven on Earth.

I just keep my old kitchen cabinets in the kitchen, makes sense as they are fixed to the walls, how handy is that then. I don't own a black builders bucket..? However after last nights chemotherapy drug induced insomnia, I do now own a set of Sealey pry bars and thank you Bruce a set of those rather sexy cranked anodised ratchet spanners. Oh...!!!! dear I forgot the Star diagnostic kit that I am collecting on Thursday....:D Hmmmm better check bank balance....

The man maths here is simple, for me to get one trip travel insurance so I could chill out in Andalusia for a week or two it would cost me over £600.00 :wallbash: So I am staying put till my treatment is done and hopefully I am in remission, meanwhile bring on the tools.....;)
