I've just received my insurance renewal (from Direct Line £238.57 fully comp) and there is a new condition notified, which specifically excludes cover when the car is being used on the Nurburgring Nordschleif.

I suppose they've been bitten........

Here is a direct quote from my Admiral Insurance Cover:-

The Policy does not cover:

Use for hiring, merchandise delivery or use for any purpose in connection with the Motor Trade.

Use to secure the release of a motor vehicle, other than the vehicle identified above by its registration mark,
which has been seized by, or on behalf of, any government or public authority.

Use on the Nurburgring Nordschleife, or for racing, pace-making, competitions, rallies, track days, trials or speed
tests either on a road, track, or at an off road 4x4 event.

It's not a track, its a public toll road

Only on "tourist" days, when grief like this tends to happen most frequently.
The insurance aspect is an utter minefield and even with the specialist insurers the cover can be both limited and patchy.

Things can easily turn ugly. Ask the eejit at my office who, having bigged up his planned trip for weeks, was very silent afterwards and tried to change the subject when it was raised. Eventually emerged one night after many beers that that despite having "Ring" cover in place he ended up over £9k down after an incident on his second lap thanks to the high excess/low max. payout mentioned below.

He'd have been cheaper just thrashing down some country lanes until exiting into a field.
