Hi all,
i think my thermostat may have gone "belly up" grateful if anyone could tell me the correct operating temperature for a 2003 s class 320 cdi 6 in line diesel w220 xx tks

Ringway - many thanks - will change it as it is running cooler

It will be running a bit cooler in this cold weather and will take longer to reach the optimum temperature. But if it's generally below the mark it's time for a new one.

I have the same issue, it only reaches 80-90 if I'm sitting idle in traffic and then it drops to 40-50 when i get moving.

Is this due to the cold weather? In an hour journey it will reach 50 maximum

design guru - as davidjpowell says it is best to replace it - if you dont the fuel consumption will increase as the engine is not able to reach and maintain its correct operating temperature - the £40 or so for the thermostat (plus fitting) will soon be recouped.
