As mentioned in another thread I had a GT63 4dr loan car for the day and as requested here is my basic opinion of it. I've tried not to be bias, but admittedly it's difficult.

I really like the exterior of the GT63, especially the rear quarter view with the adjustable wing raised (see the last picture). I'm loving the long front end with the panamericana grill. No doubt it is a aesthetically stunning machine.

The GT63's comfort seats were more comfortable than my performance seats and as time went on I was enjoying them so much I was dreading getting back in mine. Although this was short lived and after getting back in my car I was presently pleased and immediately forgot about the comfort seats I had just left. My wife on the other hand thinks they are like night and day, she can't get comfortable in my performance seats, but for some reason refuses to adjust them to suit her requirements (presumably so she doesn't have to eat humble pie).

The ride was definitely softer even though it was on 21's, but being as it is a Grand Tourer that was to be expected and helped with the new AMG Ride control with adjustable dampers.

No surprise, but tyre skip is as awful as my W213 E63s on summer tyres.

With only 600 miles on the clock, I never gave it any beans so performance wasn't tested, being a GT63 (not the 's' model) it had 577hp, which is more than enough to drag this lump around.

The interior as we know is very similar to the W213, the dash and display screens are exactly the same so nothing to compare there. It had the facelift steering wheel which in some ways is better, but as mentioned in another thread by Andy (Andy1a2b) the extra toggles for driving modes and programmable functions are very flimsy and feel cheap. The biggest interior difference between my E63s and the GT63 is the centre console, which didn't put me up or down. Maybe this could have been something to do with mine being Carbon fibre and this particular model having brushed chrome.

The GT63 is so much like the W213 E63s and it shows that they share the same basic platform. After it's service, I got back in my E63s and after driving a short distance I was happily surprised that I didn't care about the GT63 anymore. Is the GT63 a better car, Yes. Is it worth the extra money, although I am a huge fan of the GT63 IMHO, no it isn't worth the extra money. My E63s Edition 1 is now selling for around £70-£75k and there is no way that a GT63 (albeit 2 years newer) is worth my car, plus another £75k. Even if comparing both cars at new value, I wouldn't be able to justify the extra +£40k between the two.

In no way am I trying to play down the excellence of the GT63 and I take my hat off to any existing and future owners (possibly myself one day), but I guess the problem I have is that I believe my W213 E63s Edition 1 is such a great all rounder, I couldn't spend the extra £££'s on a GT63 for what in very basic terms is essentially just a different shell. Arguably this could be said for plenty of different vehicle purchases, but that's my 2p worth.

Now I'll take cover and prepare for the critics and people highlighting my bias comments, but as I said in the beginning, it's hard not to.

What is the sound like? The E63S doesn't have the new OPF and is argueably the best sounding 4 door car out there right now from AMG, I assume the GT63 is quite muted in comparison having been fitted with OPF?

I always found it a strange decision why Mercedes dropped the CLS 63 to put this in its place - the CLS was always an E but with bells and whistles and, by the sounds of your experience, the GT 4door is exactly that except with a near 50% uplift in price!

It’d be interesting to see the difference in sales figures because at that price you’re well into Rapide and Panamera money and also a nearly new GTC4 Lusso too...

It was indeed muted comparded to the E63s. Still a nice sound, but subdued.

I've only sat in one, never driven one, and I echo your thoughts. A great car but is it worth the money over an E63? I don't think so.

You had that for a day and never gave it any beans, I would have red lined it for 24 hours.
Wet weather, summer tyres and the thought of wrapping a £150k car around a tree kept me from the thrills I achieve most days in my own car. If it was something I hadn't experienced before then I most probably would have hit the limiter a few times.

There are some great reviews online from the usual suspects, and they all talk about how dynamic and capable the car is, but honest opinons like the above definitely steer me towards a W213 E63S.

The search is now on for the right W213 E63S, but I suspect it will take me approximately 6 months to find exactly what I am looking for. The same happened with my current E63.

I have just bought and ex demo GT63s 4 door Premium Plus. I was in the market for a C63s estate (not a cheap car either and still a C Class at the end of the day) which I was waiting on for almost a year, this was offered to me and it was too good to pass up. Its sat being detailed currently but I don't think I will make it back home until 22nd December at this rate....

I have never driven the V8 Bi turbo version yet, I had a weekend in a GT53 here in the USA back in March and I loved it, I thought it was just a bit more special than a CLS 53, it was certainly more hardcore. The chassis changes between the CLS/E platform and this make the GT a different kind of vehicle, the E63 is absolutely fantastic but with 639HP its clear this one was meant to go up to 11.

Its not as well mannered as the CLS for everyday driving. Feeling the quality of interior materials, seats for example are all leather with no Artico back/sides like other cars, makes the car feel more S Class than anything else IMO, and the high standard spec leave you not wanting much more.

I would still but a Panamera Turbo or a Bentley sadly. Another niche that doesn't need filling by M-B and AMG.

I think you've answered your own question...….

I think that's a pretty just review. I really like the GT63, I saw one in the metal and think it looks great. Very imposing and had real presence. I would imagine it looks great in blue with silver rims.

The only thing that gets me is that ultimately it's a CLS63 (if it wasn't why only have a CLS53?) and in turn the E63S probably does 99.9% of what this car does for a lot less money. I'd imagine a pre-reg one or a used one would make for an excellent buy though!

I'm in my 40's, divorced, with a girlfriend a lot younger than me. A bit too many stereotypes/cliches to go for a Porsche I'm afraid. The Panamera is a great car, I borrowed a Sport Turismo which is another rare niche but when done with options they run at nearly 170k... more expensive than the already well equipped GT.

The Bentley is also knocking on the door of 200k and its a footballers car. Its great, but wrong image.

MB are quoting very strong residuals, hopefully being produced in low enough numbers will keep it more exclusive than the E63. There are not many deals about on pre reg units, I looked at a few that were odd colour/wheel combo's and didn't have the rear seat bench, mine was the directors at Marshalls Bolton and has a few thousand miles on it, its everything I was looking for. There is a long lead for them also.

To be honest if money was no object, I'd totally have one anyway! haha

What kind of colour combos were they? I can't imagine they'll be a common sight on the road. :)

There were not many 's' models with premium plus pack around, but I believe from September this year they have dropped the non s model, so now you can only get GT63s Premium or Premium Plus, there are quite a few GT63 demos for sale. The cars on MB approved website were either Brilliant Blue (not magno) with Brown leather or White with Brown Leather, or Black with Machiatto Beige Designo leather which I didn't fancy. I'm not a fan of the aero pack either, there is a few of them still for sale.

It looks ugly and bloated. I like it.

Think posted a pic of this from Goodwood FoS this year...Think looks better in flesh than in these pics which make the body look heavy in design terms I mean..pics 1,2 and 3 esp. Also think the window arrangement looks clumsy...but were I in the market i.e. had the wedge! I would love to try one on for size! Even though it would be a toss up at the price with a Nismo GTR...well what the hell, one of each! :-)

Talked to MB sales about it, they said its not an s-class quality in either drive or interior, but its not a rough sports car either. With the retirement of the S-class coupe, MB has exited the GT market.
I know the upcoming SL looks amazing but my problem with it is its small and a soft top only option is terrible decision.
