As mentioned in another thread I had a GT63 4dr loan car for the day and as requested here is my basic opinion of it. I've tried not to be bias, but admittedly it's difficult.
I really like the exterior of the GT63, especially the rear quarter view with the adjustable wing raised (see the last picture). I'm loving the long front end with the panamericana grill. No doubt it is a aesthetically stunning machine.
The GT63's comfort seats were more comfortable than my performance seats and as time went on I was enjoying them so much I was dreading getting back in mine. Although this was short lived and after getting back in my car I was presently pleased and immediately forgot about the comfort seats I had just left. My wife on the other hand thinks they are like night and day, she can't get comfortable in my performance seats, but for some reason refuses to adjust them to suit her requirements (presumably so she doesn't have to eat humble pie).
The ride was definitely softer even though it was on 21's, but being as it is a Grand Tourer that was to be expected and helped with the new AMG Ride control with adjustable dampers.
No surprise, but tyre skip is as awful as my W213 E63s on summer tyres.
With only 600 miles on the clock, I never gave it any beans so performance wasn't tested, being a GT63 (not the 's' model) it had 577hp, which is more than enough to drag this lump around.
The interior as we know is very similar to the W213, the dash and display screens are exactly the same so nothing to compare there. It had the facelift steering wheel which in some ways is better, but as mentioned in another thread by Andy (Andy1a2b) the extra toggles for driving modes and programmable functions are very flimsy and feel cheap. The biggest interior difference between my E63s and the GT63 is the centre console, which didn't put me up or down. Maybe this could have been something to do with mine being Carbon fibre and this particular model having brushed chrome.
The GT63 is so much like the W213 E63s and it shows that they share the same basic platform. After it's service, I got back in my E63s and after driving a short distance I was happily surprised that I didn't care about the GT63 anymore. Is the GT63 a better car, Yes. Is it worth the extra money, although I am a huge fan of the GT63 IMHO, no it isn't worth the extra money. My E63s Edition 1 is now selling for around £70-£75k and there is no way that a GT63 (albeit 2 years newer) is worth my car, plus another £75k. Even if comparing both cars at new value, I wouldn't be able to justify the extra +£40k between the two.
In no way am I trying to play down the excellence of the GT63 and I take my hat off to any existing and future owners (possibly myself one day), but I guess the problem I have is that I believe my W213 E63s Edition 1 is such a great all rounder, I couldn't spend the extra £££'s on a GT63 for what in very basic terms is essentially just a different shell. Arguably this could be said for plenty of different vehicle purchases, but that's my 2p worth.
Now I'll take cover and prepare for the critics and people highlighting my bias comments, but as I said in the beginning, it's hard not to.
