I've found two Mercedes from a friend of a friend. I'm interested in both and have got an idea of what to offer/pay for them but just wondering on some others opinions on here. Both cars have been kept garaged and not outside.

The first car is a 1989 420SL, it has 72,000 miles. Red with cream leather and rear seats. Two owners from new. The car has not been touched in 8 to 10 years, never started, never moved, never driven. It is in very good condition all round with no rust. There are a few minor scratches, stonechips and paintwork here and there.

The second car is a 1990 500SE W126, it has 35,000 miles and again two owners from new. It is in good condition with no rust apparent. The paintwork isn't brilliant in some places so at worst would need a paint job. It has been used and not stood like the SL.

Any thoughts on what you would pay? The SL will obviously need money spending on it to get it running.

Ooooh sounds like a good find there mate. Hard to price up with values all over the shot.did you get any pics of them? I would say without seeing them 6-8 for both as will need a lot of re commissioning to get them back in good order

I don't see the 126 anywhere near that. 2-3k for the 126 2k if it needs paint. The 107 would be a snip at £6k but a good one with those miles would be 12-20k may be more at a specialist dealer. The 126 would probably get 8k at a dealers IMHO.

The 107 is really in very good condition throughout just needing some minor bits here and there to be perfect. It will obviously need a few thousand spending to recomission, new tyres, brakes etc.

The 126 is in good condition also although I didn't spend as much time looking at it. The paintwork is dull but not that awful and probably with professional attention would look good again. It has been used up until recently so nothing would be needed mechanically.

The 107 could be worth anywhere between £3k - £20k depending on just how good/original it is. At these values its worth investing a few quid on a professional inspection. Easy to look at through rose tinted specs once a car has caught your eye. ( If i had taken my own advice i would have landed up with a better example than i bought!).

It all comes down to condition. I would say 10-12K would be prudent... £8-10K for the SL and around 2K for the W126.

I was also thinking along those lines!
