Im about to Buy a Mercedes E320 diesel. Auto tiptronic. In Avant garde spec. It has all the usual refinements. plus full Nav. And phone kit ect. Are there any Things to look out for and how good/economical are these cars ? Thanks !
Sorry should have said its a 2003 with 52k miles

If you haven't bought it yet I would suggest you try EVERY option that is fitted and also make sure it has a full main dealer Mercedes-Benz service history. I say this last bit because the E-class has had numerous recalls, service bulletins etc and if it hasn't seen a main dealer recently then I would guess there may well be a few outstanding. Early 211's have a problem with the radiator leaking fluid into the transmission, but again if it is under the main dealer umbrella this might have been sorted.

The 320CDI might not be the most economical choice but by crikey it is a great engine with a huge :) factor.

Check the wheels to see if they have gone milky around the stud fittings, again these should have been changed under warranty. The only very rare corrosion issues is along the black beading along the roof, but I have only ever heard of a few examples having this problem.

Hopefully others will throw more suggestions into the pot.

If you have not done the deal yet then from January 2004 all E-class have a better quality paint finish. (It's called the nano clear top coat)

Good luck,
John

Thanks for that John ! Yes it has full MB history And ive checked the car out properly In all honesty Ive taken it in PX ( Or will be doing shortly on My M3 which has been driving Me crazy with its uncompramising ride ) So MPG is not realy an issue but I a little curios as to what it will do ???

Hello,

Nice choice my dad has had a 53 plate since new and seems to go better with miles, regularly does cheshire to Annecy nr geneva in a day.

He gets over 40 every trip, average at 44mpg and sees 50mpg on the odd journey (his is over 60K now)

He loves it for eating up the miles and for such a big car it still has some vroom.

Yes its had a number of recalls but only needed the normal servicing to keep it happy.

You will enjoy it.

These are tremendous cars, so smooth and refined. As A210AMG said, they can cross Europe with ease.
