Doing the final bit of 'research' before possible purchasing an SLK 200.

(Having difficulty find out some of the information detailed below from other forums) Didn't think it would be that difficult.

But there are a few optional equipment upgrades that I would like to see the definition or spec. Does anyone know where I can find an internet page where the meaning of the following is clearly stated before I pay out hard earned cash for them.

1. What is the spec on the Airscarf?
2. What do you get on the Interior Lighting Package??
3. In what way is the suspension altered when the sports suspension is done?
4. On the 18inch alloys (included with the sports pack) can I choose an option on the tyres?
5. Why would I not want the sports air filter, which is only fitted on the 300 and 350??
6. What do you get with the Alarm system with immobiliser and what do they mean (specifically) by 'interior protection', referred to as MBSS3. Makes me want to ask if there is an MBSS4 installed on other models!
7. Where can I find the spec on the trip computer?
8. Can I find the definition or spec of the Electronic Stability Programme??
9. Audio 20, Audio 50 and the command multimedia system spec.
10. Is there an upgrade worth considering on the body paint in relation to the finish?
****I know in essence what the above items are, but I want to find more detail so I can make some informed decsions***.

Apparently I'm an MB salesman's nightmare, but I make no apology for asking a simple question(s) before parting with £100s.

So I would be grateful for any info especially if some of the SLK options are a complete waste of time.

Thanks in advance for any info

You won't find more detail anywhere on the web than you will in the brochure available from the dealer, but as my wife owns an SLK350 with Sports Pack I'll try to help:

1. What is the spec on the Airscarf?

It has three heat settings and blows anything from warm to quite hot air around your neck. The headrest height is adjustable and the outlet vent is in the headrest, so it works well pretty much however tall you are. It's only available in conjunction with heated seats and makes the car usable with the top down at quite low temperatures (e.g. 3C if the sun's shining too!)

2. What do you get on the Interior Lighting Package??

Ambient lighting to the footwells and around the door handles

3. In what way is the suspension altered when the sports suspension is done?

The springs are stiffer than the standard setup, with changed damper settings to suit

4. On the 18inch alloys (included with the sports pack) can I choose an option on the tyres?

No

5. Why would I not want the sports air filter, which is only fitted on the 300 and 350??

It's not available on the 4-cylinder models, only on the V6's, so whether you want it or not you can't have it on a 200K. Its main function is to change the intake sound (honestly!)

6. What do you get with the Alarm system with immobiliser and what do they mean (specifically) by 'interior protection', referred to as MBSS3. Makes me want to ask if there is an MBSS4 installed on other models!

The alarm is triggered if you open a door, the boot or the bonnet; it is triggered if the car is lifted (e.g. to tow away); it has microwave interior sensors that triggers the alarm if movement is detected inside the (closed) vehicle. The interior motion detection is automatically disabled if you lock the car with the roof down, but a nice feature is that the glovebox and centre console storage box both lock with the central locking, so they're always secure

7. Where can I find the spec on the trip computer?

You can learn about the trip computer's functions and how to operate it from the owner's manual. An online version of the manual is available on the Mercedes-Benz website

8. Can I find the definition or spec of the Electronic Stability Programme??

Look in the owner's manual.

9. Audio 20, Audio 50 and the command multimedia system spec.

Audio 20 is the base system; Audio 50 adds navigation capability, but not with a live moving map; COMAND is a full sat-nav solution that that includes voice control of navigation, radio, multimedia and telephone. Audio power output and sound quality is identical with all three. If you want better sound then spec the HK Logic 7 upgrade. Get your dealer to demonstrate them if you want to know more.

10. Is there an upgrade worth considering on the body paint in relation to the finish?

No.

The flower vase on the Volkswagen Beetle, hands down. (and yes they really come with one!)

EDIT: something that is useless that every car has? The reistat (not sure of the spelling). It's the knob that controls how dim/bright your dash instrument lights are ... does anyone ever put it at a setting besides "all the way up" ?

I do! I dim the dash lights right down, so that I can just read the instruments when driving on unlit roads - avoids unwelcome reflections.

It's a 'rheostat' lol (apologies for correcting your spelling!) and yes, it comes in very handy!

Phil thanks for the detailed reply, it provided some useful information that was difficult to locate or extract from the sales teams.
Now off to source some Gap insurance........
