My lovely 1994 aW124 cabrio :o has clear indicator lenses and therefore orange bulbs to meet UK legislation.
Being a good citizens in 'Broon's Britain' I thought I'd order a set of spare bulbs from my local MB dealer. I've now realised that the clear indicator bulbs are actually pretty useless and wondered what, if anything, I could coat them with so that they'll be orange
Or should my dealer (who knew what model they were for) have ordered a special box of bulbs for a facelift aW124 if such a thing exists?
I should add that this is a standard MB box of spare bulbs - one h/lamp bulb, couple of smaller internal bulbs and a couple of indicator bulbs in a plastic box.

Many thanks

i got mine form motorworld
Yes, but I'm cheap so having paid £15 for a box of bulbs I don't want to chuck two and buy 2 more orange jobbies

The OEM ones cost about £13 a pair.

<got some for my Easter Project>

Avoid cheapies as the offset pins are often not offset enough to fit in the bulb holder...

Ive got a brand new set of smoked side repeaters with orange bulbs in for the W124 if you are interested .

As above, get the OE 'silver' indicator bulbs from M-B dealer.

I have them in the SL, and 2 sets in the Vito (front & back) - they are excellent.

Just bought 2 sets for my father-in-law's R171 as well!

I think the OP wants orange bulbs not clear bulbs. or basically how to paint the clear bulbs orange

Most good model shops sell Tamiya clear amber lacquer for about £1.20 for a small pot. This works well and is the correct colour.

I think the OP has put clear bulbs in clear lenses

Silver indicator bulbs will look much better in clear lenses than orange ones (whether bought or DIY).

If you fit clear repeaters you've got to use the chrome bulbs - using orange bulbs just gives you an awful fried egg effect !!

www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk and get the blue ones free

(Not sure why they have 100% design on the packet, have other bulbs only been 99% designed?)

£14 total for a set of these bulbs seem well over the top
How often do you replace indicator bulbs though?

The orange ones looked bad enough in the SL's standard 'white' front indicators, but in the standard crystal clear ones on the Vito (front & back) they looked awful. Same goes for the R171.

OK folks....you have convinced me. Today I got rid of the fried egg look courtesy of Ebay - £8 for a pair of the Philips Silver bulbs :)
