I was at my local dealer's today with a warranty problem (see thread in bodywork section) and while I was waiting had a close look at a new W221 S350. It looked impressive in Obsidian Black until I noticed all the reflections were distorted. Then I realised, the car had an orange peel paint finish. On a £78k car   .

On a slightly different topic, I don't like the switchgear on the new S.

I'm not surprised as MBs paint is not the best but is worse on some certain models than others and is a disgrace to see this on one their flagship models...

Off topic: W221 is manufactured/assembled in Germany too for those who have been following the thread related to production of MB cars outside Germany which also discusses quality issues too http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=26334... ;)

Can be rectified with a mop polish, as the lacquer is still a tad too thick. But not what you want to see on a new car!

Was this the black one that they had in MB Bedford perchance?

I too had a look at the one in their showroom: beautiful car. But I could not help noticing that below each of the front door handles there was a distinct 3-inch 'dimple' caused by the skin pressing moulds. It looked like a car park dent to me-but both front doors had these identical marks.

Call me fussy but for a car costing in excess of £80K should I not expect the bodywork to be perfect, especially in black?
