It was a major logistical problem that approached nightmare proportions and required huge effort to cope with: around the 1900's the horse population of London was around 300,000 and your average nag produces about 10Kg of dropping per day!

One of the reasons the car was so welcome. Also by the 1920's it was cheaper to run a car than keep a horse
