Sorry, completely off topic but I am desperate.

I have a Compaq Presario 700 series laptop and I need a new AC/DC adaptor. The low voltage lead keeps breaking inside and I have bodged it up for now with a new piece of cable.

Anybody know where I can get a new adaptor? PCWorld are as much use as a chocolate teapot!

There are lots of different part numbers on it, but the output is 19v, a I have used a Sony 19v one on it:) , any ideas??

got a m8 who works for fujitsu simens (whom took over ICL) I am sur ethey use compaq's.....

i'll give him a call - could you give me model no of PSU? cheers.

Cheers K, would appreciate it.

There are a couple of numbers on it:

AC ADAPTER MODEL: LE-9702B-01
COMPAQ SPARE: 177625-001

Also says:

For use with Compaq series CM2050, CM2060, CM2070 family of computer products.

My actual laptop is a Compaq Presario 705EA.

I don't think my lead will last the week out.

Most modern laptops are 19v supply, round connector with the centre pin positive.

I have used loads of different power supplies with different laptops.

A variable voltage universal charger works well, with adaptable end connectors to suit most things you own!

I looked at a Targus universal adaptor last week but it was bulky and was over £100:mad:

Partmaster direct can supply one but it is £80:crazy:

Jimmy,

Is it a 19v round connector with the centre pin positive.

I might be able to help.

Yes Simon, thats the one.:)

I have used a Sony and Sharp one so they must be pretty standard.

I would be grateful if you could help.

to stop them going duff , you could try using an inline anti surge plug . about 20 squids in pc world i think targus make them.

Thanks guys for your help and especially to Black180 for getting me sorted, much appreciated and it is nice to be able to put another face to the name and the car!;)

:bannana:

Mostly Tosh kit knocking about at work, but that's 15V 3A I think, otherwise I could help...

Is yours an HP Vin ? That's the same as mine.

All Dell ones here....14.4 Volts - sorry.

14.4 volts makes it easy to have an in-car charger though :D

The one Simon kindly got for me is 20V 3.25A 65W.

Close enough?

On this same subject, I bought a universal laptop car charger the other day from Maplins below for £19.99. It works just great on my Sony Vaio @ 19v

They also do this transformer below for £19.99 which seems really good value.
