Thought so...

What did I think last time?

Oh yes: "Knob's/rapper's/footballer's car."

It hasn't changed...

If you really want a fast E-class Coupe - then you don’t have the luxury of being able to order it from the factory - so the likes of Kleemann are where you must turn.

I think it might sell more easily without the LPG kit. There’s a market for tuned cars, and a market for LPG cars, but tuned LPG cars must be a very small pool to fish in.

Genuine question! Why do some people spend 10’s of thousands creating an essentially custom to car to then sell it at a huge loss ?

I must admit to being a bit guilty of this with a W212 E63. I justified by classing it as a project though it did cost a few quid more than I would have liked...

This would include things sending the transmission to California to be rebuilt to handle the extra power, along with several other unconventional build aspects. It was more about the journey really than the end product, lots of experimentation and hopefully a few other people benefited from my experiences. It was fun at the time and I'd probably do the same again if I had the time and money.

And yes, it was sold at a huge loss though at least it went to a mate. :)

****. That’s insane. Please tell me you live in the United States at least ? Any idea how much you spent in total ?

Must admit I'm guilty of modifying the vast majority of my motors, even if it's only a set of wheels, I've spent 1000s
on mods and lost 1000s
when I sold them, but to be honest, so what, doesn't bother me at all, that's what I've enjoyed doing. :) 👍

Fair play! If cars are your passion, I kinda get it. Looks like I should start buying modified cars for all the savings 😂 Do let me know when you sell your next one.

So, the question now is, what’s the biggest loss someone has taken on a modified car 😎

Lancashire, so a fair way for the parts to travel. Having said that, it was mostly done as an experiment with the help of MSL Performance so a lot of the costs were absorbed as such.

As for an idea of what the total spend was then yes, I have an exact figure but it's irrelevant really as it was being done whatever. It did go a bit further than originally planned but it was worth it, at least to me at the time.

Ha! Amazing. Was there no company in the UK that could do the work required? Was it that specialist? Also, how do you ship something like that? Sounds like a total nightmare.

On further reflection, I have actually “lost” a lot of money on a car. I always buy my vase cash but if made more financial sense when I wanted a super car. Decided to go for a lease. 0 regrets.

The only UK company at the time which I would have trusted would have been Penn Autos, aka Andy Frost of Red Victor Racing fame. He knows what is required and is an expert in preparing transmissions for high torque applications.

I did actually speak with him but he didn't want to get involved as it would have been cost prohibitive for him to set up the required Mercedes specific diagnosotic equipment. This left me with either Weistec or Euro-Charged, both in the US. As Weistec were already supplying most of the parts for the car, it made sense to go with them. As for transporting, it all went on a pallet so no hassle there.

The dedication! That must have been a serious car? I assume it is still on the roads or part of someone’s private collection ? What are you driving now ?
