Our of coolant regularly

What period of time are we talking to loose the headertank full ?
Either way its not right but if it was the filler cap wouldn't it go straight away?

Radiator cracked - can you say with any degree of certainty whether it was losing coolant before the radiator cracked, ie is it an old problem or has it all come about since the repair?

I would echo this, how long does it take for the coolant to disappear? If it's less than a couple of days then that's far too much to be leaking only into the engine, your engine would have blown up by now plus it's also much more common for the coolant to be leaking elsewhere. Have you checked for damp patches under your car when you park it? Also try running it for a few minutes and then look under the car, you might see where it's leaking from.

If it takes longer to leak away then open the oil cap and see if it's oil coloured (either golden or black), if it's milky white then coolant might be mixing with the oil and creating a frothy emulsion and then that might be a much bigger job / sell the car.

Note the position of the cap:

Hi it takes roughly 2 to 3 weeks.

The car had no issues before. Radiator cracked, MB replaced it for 1100, car is out of coolant ever few weeks

Imo that's not the filler cap i would test the headgasket

What about the plastic water pump...prone to leak when hot...no evidence when cold...pressure test should find the fault

What i can't understand is that MB have had this back and found nothing 😕
Best go to spec savers
On a serious note I hope you sort it 👍

How many times did you top it up so far? Perhaps they didn't fill up the system properly and left air in the system?

Either way, a coolant loss problem that started after they swapped the radiator, and they wash their hands off it... not very professional IMO.

I tried to book online for diagnosis but because I already complained twice I am asked to call. Called up and I said I want to book a coolant leak diagnosis, guy asked me if I wanted to take it to brentford - i said no way they are crap. Long story short, MB specialist from road side assistance came over. Hooked star diagnosis and the car has 0 faults. Filled up the tank and pressure tested it - not losing pressure. Also had a look if the engine is full of coolant, checked the engine oil, everything clean. We did notice a splatter pattern from the center of the engine. My thinking it is a cracked seal somewhere, probably in the thermostat housing as it seems to fail often. She suggested I either get it to an indie to let it run for hours on the platform to see where the leak is coming or book it with MB Brooklands as they are way better for performance models.
I will book it with them and say if you cant figure out where the leak is then i am not paying you any diagnosis money.

The vehicle was topped up twice after the radiator replacement. Their suggestion was to keep topping it up. I doubt the tank can be totally empty due to air pockets.

It can be, if they did a particularly crappy job when filling it up in the first place.

Is the heater getting really hot, could be an air lock. Is the manifold water cooled, could be cracked. Just a thought.

Out of interest what car has a water cooled manifold?

Some VWs

My 1979 Alfetta had one...:

Intake manifold, that is.

Spotted the leak today. The coolant tank leaks like crazy at the back if the coolant ia hot and i open the seal cap
