I noticed that when Jade's funeral cortege left the undertakers in Bermondsey, there were two mtorocyclists on white Honda Pan Europeans with yellow stickers etc on that were not Policemen, who seemed (in full view of the local Met) to hold back traffic, ignore all road signs and markings e.g. traffic lights etc to allow the smooth passage of the funeral cortege.
In addition, there was a black VW van (totally unmarked) with 2 blue flashing lights on the roof and one further vehicle with a purple flashing light on the roof (I know this is not uncommon for funeral vehicles, but still, it does not give them any rights, just a warning thing).
I have no ojection at all for this to have happened.
I am just curious as to what authority the motorcyclists and the van had, to effecivtely provide an unauthorised police convoy. Will they for example have a pile of fixed penalties waiting for them at home for going through red lights, using the bus lane, going the wrong way down streets etc.
Or, is it simply a question of having prior apporval from some higher authority?
