AMG C63
Hi all,
I wonder if anyone could shed any light on my issue.
I have a C63 AMG, 2012. There are 2 things id like opinions on, both to do with the ambient temperature sensor, firstly, the displayed temperature always seems to be too high, for example this morning the car was showing 14 degrees c, even though it was only just above freezing ( the engine was cold, so couldn't have been picking up heat from there, and my work van was showing 1 degree c ). This reading does change, as in its not stuck on 14, but just always seems to be 10-15 degrees higher than it should be !
It has been doing this ever since i bought it a couple of months ago, I have changed the sensor at the weekend, and it still shows it as being too high!

The second thing is i haven't worked out a way of having the temp showing as i drive, it shows up when i first get in, then disappears when the car is going, I checked the handbook and the section where it says you can swap between digital speedo and temp in the lower permanent display, also says it can't be done on uk models.

Any advice or thoughts much appreciated.

I have a 64 plate E63 and the same speedo cluster as your C63.
Do you not have an "AMG" button down by the gearshift that when activated ,shows the temperature, gear selection etc all the time in the cluster? It also lowers the car fully and puts the car in Sport+ mode

Hi there AMGeed, In short, no i don't have an AMG button, i have the selector which goes through C S S+ M and RS.
I have to admit, i haven't noticed if the outside temp shows up in the other modes, as when i was trying to get it showing i was in C.
There is an AMG section inside the speedo display that you select with the steering wheel buttons, which could be worth a try i reckon ?

Give it a try.
There may be software differences between the clusters on my car and yours.

I will do. I don't suppose you have any thoughts on why it seems to show it being hotter than it is all the time ?

At a guess I'd say you have a faulty temp sender, even though you replaced it. Did you replace it with a genuine Mercedes part?
Needs diagnosing with Star to be certain.

No it wasn’t a genuine Mercedes one, it was listed as same as genuine spec, but who knows if that was true ?!
It seems odd that the original one was reading too high as well, I just went to check it now, and the car has been sat all day, it it was saying 16 degrees, even though we are on the verge of frost 🤔

^ If you have a local Mercedes specialist with Star diagnostics, he can read the live data and pinpoint the problem.
Far cheaper labour wise than main dealer.
Certainly isn't 16c anywhere in the UK now:D

If the other sensor was also reading high, you may have a different problem. It seems wrong that two sensors, one new both read high.

I think I’ll give it a try finding an independent to see what they can come up with.
Like you say, two sensors doing the same thing seems odd.
thanks for taking the time to answer 👍🏻

Just a little update to this post, after some investigation, i found one of the wires going to the sensor was frayed, about 12 inches back the loom.
I cut out the bad bit, re-connected, and all has been we'll since :)
