Over bright Rear LED NUmber plate lights??

Just lately ive seen quite a few of these Over bright Rear number plate lights, Presumably LED ones.

One in particular was a BMW, they were so bright if it hadn't of been for the tail lights the vehicle could have been mistaken for travelling the wrong way on a dual carriageway.

You couldnt even read most of the rear number plate as the light reflected was just too bright.

Is this all legal??

Seen a few myself recently. Cannot imagine they are legal because, as you say, the number plate is unreadable, and the lights distracting.
Had one last week, with the left hand one flashing at irregular intervals.
Maybe Halfords have had an offer on?

And over brights lights on the front as well.

See it all too often Gav, it's annoying. I'm all for technology and all that but most of them are so bright that they render the numberplate unreadable.
