Agreed. Was taught to drive by my father who instilled into me, phrases such as "tyres & tarmac" (referring to distances when behind stationary vehicles esp when it comes to parking)
Good rule of thumb, but with the seating position of most ‘youf’ of today that would be 4 car lengths, their seats are set up as if laying on a sun lounger on the beach in Los Christianos.
 
When I done my test led was not know of in cars and had to use hand signals as part of my test. Lol.

When you've stopped, press a bit firmer on the brake pedal. You'll see a 'Hold' indicator on the dashboard and you can take your foot off. The car keeps the brakes (and the brake lights) on.
