P reg trend in saftey mode

My trend has gone into saftey mode all functions are working is this common

I have a 7 seater P reg minibus that will only run in saftey mode, (1 gear) all ecu, clutch housing, gear box etc are working fine, does any one else have this pobblem?

I think that Trend was a model variant (like Elegance, Avantgarde etc) on the V Class...

Make and Model of minibus
Year of first registration
Engine size and type
Gearbox type
Current mileage

If you can give us these details I'm sure one of us will be able to help

Looks like it's a Mercedes V Class of some sort then...

v230 Trend1997 auto gearbox, I have had the ecu, gear exchaehusing tested and they are fine

Firstly, welcome to the forum.

When you say 'safety' mode I will assume you mean 'limp home' mode?

Is this diesel? There could be any number of problems. Could you describe what happens? How the engine reacts/doesn't react? If you turn off the engine and on again is it ok or does it re-occur soon after?

Think your best bet is to get it on STAR and get the codes read.

Where are you located? Someone on here should be able to find you a local Indie garage nearby.

Thanks, Its a petrol 80,000 miles. I've been told its limp mode. I have taken it to a main dealer for a diagnostic and they have given a very poor recomondation. I have had the ecu, and gear exchange tested and they are working fine, it seem to be a stange thing although there seems to be a few around with similer problems. It is always running the same in 3rd all the time. What is STAR?

Star is the diagnostic programme that main dealers and good indies use.
Didn't your main dealer connect it up to finf what was wrong?

Hi I'm in tunbridge wells kent
The main dealer told me that it was something like the gear exchange housing and would cost around 750 I took it back after having it check and I have had the ecu check and they a both in good working order, my girl friends brother is a mechanic and is baffalled with what might be wrong.
